Alisa Hotel & Spa Overview

You know what’s funny about Hanoi’s Old Quarter? You can walk down the same street five times and still discover something new – and that’s exactly what happened when I stumbled across Alisa Hotel & Spa on Hàng Vôi. I was actually looking for a decent coffee shop (aren’t we always?) when this sleek four-star caught my eye, tucked between the usual mix of street food vendors and silk shops that make this neighborhood so wonderfully chaotic.

The thing about staying in Hoan Kiem is that you’re basically in the heart of everything, but honestly, most hotels here either try too hard to be boutique-fancy or they’re just… well, tired. Alisa manages to hit this sweet spot where it feels polished without losing that Vietnamese warmth. The lobby has this modern-meets-traditional vibe – think dark wood accents and contemporary furniture, but not in that sterile way some places do it. Check-in was smooth, which I appreciated after dealing with Hanoi’s traffic (if you’re coming from Noi Bai, just accept that it’s going to take forever and embrace the madness). The staff genuinely seemed happy to see guests, not just going through the motions.

What really sold me was stepping into the spa area – I mean, after a day of navigating motorbikes and the sensory overload of Dong Xuan Market, you need somewhere to decompress. The treatment rooms have this zen quality that makes you forget you’re literally steps away from some of the busiest streets in Southeast Asia. The rooms themselves are thoughtfully designed; mine had a great view toward Hoan Kiem Lake, though you’ll hear the city humming below (it’s Hanoi, people – embrace the energy or book somewhere in Ba Dinh). Air conditioning worked perfectly, which honestly is half the battle in Vietnam’s humidity. I loved the rainfall shower, and the bed was firm in that good way that doesn’t leave you feeling like you wrestled with a marshmallow all night. The WiFi was solid too, important if you’re trying to navigate Google Maps or convince friends back home that yes, you really did eat that mystery street food and lived to tell about it. Location-wise, you’re a five-minute walk to Ngoc Son Temple and all the weekend night market craziness around the lake. Duck into any of the alleyways and you’ll find pho joints that’ll ruin you for the stuff back home – the owners at the corner of Hàng Vôi and Hàng Quạt make a broth that’s basically liquid gold. For what you get – the service, the spa, being right in the thick of Old Quarter life without sacrificing comfort – it’s honestly solid value. This isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
