The location is actually pretty brilliant once you figure out the neighborhood. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (which, let’s be honest, you’re probably going to visit anyway), and here’s the thing most people don’t realize – you’re also super close to some of the best local pho spots that tourists never find. There’s this little place two blocks down that opens at 6 AM, and the hotel staff actually told me about it, which was cool. The area gets busy during the day with all the government buildings around, but evenings are surprisingly quiet. I was worried about street noise, but our room faced the back and it was totally fine.

What I really appreciated was how the staff handled things – they’re not overly formal, but they know their stuff. Check-in was smooth, and when I asked about getting to the Old Quarter, the front desk guy didn’t just say “take a taxi” like some places do. He actually explained the bus routes and mentioned which streets get jammed up during rush hour. The rooms themselves are solid for a 4-star – nothing fancy, but the AC works well (crucial in Hanoi summers), and the bathroom was actually bigger than I expected. I mean, the decor’s a bit dated, sure, but everything’s clean and functional. The WiFi was decent too, which isn’t always a given in Vietnam.

Here’s something that stood out: the breakfast area has this view of the street where you can watch the morning motorbike chaos while drinking your coffee. It’s like dinner theater, but with Vietnamese traffic. And speaking of breakfast, they do a mix of Western and Vietnamese options – the pho was legit, not the watered-down hotel version you sometimes get. The 7.9 rating feels about right, honestly. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it does what it does well. You’re paying for a good location in a safe neighborhood, decent amenities, and staff who actually seem to care about helping you navigate the city. For the price point in this part of Hanoi, that’s actually a pretty good deal. Just don’t expect luxury – think reliable and well-positioned instead.
