Calista Trendy Hotel & Spa Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Calista Trendy Hotel & Spa? It’s tucked into this tiny alley – Ngõ Hội Vũ – that you’d probably walk past three times before finding, but once you’re inside, it feels like you’ve discovered some secret retreat right in the heart of Hoan Kiem. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the lake and all that weekend chaos around the Old Quarter, but somehow this little lane stays surprisingly quiet. The entrance is pretty subtle too – no flashy signs or anything – which I actually loved because it means you’re not dealing with random tourists wandering through your lobby all day.

The place definitely lives up to that “trendy” part of its name, honestly. The design hits this sweet spot between modern Vietnamese style and boutique hotel chic without feeling trying-too-hard about it. They’ve got this gorgeous spa area that actually smells like lemongrass and jasmine (not that artificial hotel scent stuff), and the treatment rooms have these amazing wooden soaking tubs that I’m pretty sure I spent way too much time in. What really impressed me though was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out – they pointed me toward this incredible bún chả place on Lý Quốc Sư that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned wanting to avoid the tourist traps around Hàng Mã, they drew me a little map of back streets that led straight to the real local markets.

The rooms are well… they’re definitely designed for Instagram, but in a good way. Floor-to-ceiling windows, rain showers that actually have decent water pressure (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in Hanoi), and these beautiful dark wood accents that somehow make the space feel bigger than it probably is. I stayed on the fourth floor and could see straight across to some of those classic French colonial buildings – you know the ones with the faded yellow paint and green shutters that make you feel like you’re in some dreamy version of old Indochina. The only minor thing is that the walls are a bit thin, so if you get unlucky with neighbors you might hear more than you’d like, but the street itself stays pretty calm even during rush hour. Air conditioning works like a dream though, which honestly saved my life during those sticky July afternoons. At 9.5 rating, I get why people rave about this place – it’s got that perfect combination of being centrally located without feeling like you’re sleeping in the middle of a tourist circus, plus the spa element means you can actually unwind after spending the day dodging motorbikes and haggling in the markets.

The staff, location and beautiful, spacious rooms.

  • Lara from United Kingdom – 4 June 2025 (10/10)

I had a lovely stay here thanks to the amazing staff who were extremely helpful and kind. In particular, Harry, Tracy and Chau who all ensured I was comfortable and enjoyed my time. They were attentive and looked after me well, offering suggestions on where to visit and eat in the area as well as assisting with anything I needed for the duration of my stay. I was also made to feel extremely safe as a young solo female traveler!

I would certainly recommend this hotel and definitely go back if I ever found myself in Hanoi again.

    Thanks again, Lara!

  • James from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (10/10)

Spotlessly clean, room cleaned daily. We originally booked for 2 nights but due to visa issues actually stayed 7 nights, the staff were amazing, very accommodating.

  • Charmaine from New Zealand – 20 May 2025 (10/10)

Very helpful and friendly staff, special thanks to Tracey and Harry on reception. Very centrally located and easy walking distance to lots of must see tourist attractions. Breakfast was in their sister hotel about 3 minutes round the corner.

The hotel itself was amazing. Located on a quite alley in the Old Quarter, you can pretty much walk everywhere (we did, in fact). They gave us a free upgrade, and the room was massive, with lots of space, great AC, lots of water, kettle, coffee, etc. Breakfast was very good, with fresh fruit, noodles and eggs on demand. However, the greatest thing was the staff. Grace, Tracy and Harry were incredibly accommodating and helpful. We had to change our booking due to our circumstances, and everything we asked they were able to provide and make accommodations for in ways that were really helpful (with laundry, luggage storage, late checkout, early checkin, additional days, general information, etc.). In less than 5 mins on foot there are 5 vegetarian restaurants, gift shops, a convenience store, 10 tea / coffee shops, ATM and a bus stop. Within less than 15 mins you can reach the train station and the lake. Could not recommend this place higy enough.
