Flower Hostel Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Flower Hostel on Hàng Vôi Street – I mean, the Old Quarter can be hit or miss with accommodations, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The building itself has that classic Hanoi narrow-house charm, squeezed between a bánh mì stall and a motorbike repair shop (the mechanic starts up around 7 AM, just so you know). What caught my attention right away was how clean everything looked – not just surface-level clean, but like someone actually cares about the details. The lobby smells faintly of jasmine instead of that musty old-building smell you get in a lot of places around here.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the absolute chaos of the main tourist strips. Hàng Vôi is just tucked away enough that you can actually sleep at night, but you’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoàn Kiếm Lake and maybe five minutes from the weekend night market. I loved that I could grab my morning coffee from the tiny café next door – they make this incredible cà phê sữa đá – and then just wander over to watch the tai chi people around the lake. The staff here gets it too; they’re not pushy with the tour bookings like some places, but when you do ask for recommendations, they’ll tell you about the good phở place on Hàng Trống that tourists haven’t completely discovered yet.
What really won me over was the attention to comfort without trying to be fancy about it. The beds are actually firm (thank god), and they’ve got these thick curtains that block out the street lights – which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to adjust to the time zone. The bathrooms are small, sure, but they’re spotless and the water pressure is decent. You know what I appreciated most? The common areas don’t feel forced. There’s this little rooftop space where people naturally end up chatting in the evenings, sharing travel stories over a beer or two. I met this Australian couple there who’d been traveling for months, and we ended up exploring the Temple of Literature together the next day. The WiFi actually works throughout the building – I was able to video call home from my room without any issues, which isn’t always a given in the Old Quarter. Look, it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtful, and after bouncing around Southeast Asia for a few weeks, thoughtful goes a long way. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels like a good home base rather than just a place to crash, this is your spot.

What could be improved: Расположение комнаты на 3 этаже без лифта, но нам это не мешалоNguyen from Vietnam – 10 April 2025 (9/10)
I love this place.

I've always loved the Hoan Kiem lake on weekends, so it was great to have easy access. The adult hosts were always quite kind, despite difficulties in communication due to my poor Vietnamese.
What could be improved: I'm not sure the room was fully ready when I arrived in the evening, as some areas of the bedroom and bathroom could have been tidier. Toiletries were few for a somewhat long stay, and there was no hand soap, but I'm sure they would have provided it had I asked.Alessandra from Germany – 9 March 2025 (9/10)
It was perfect! Located in the Old Quarter but quite silent at night. Big private room with a comfortable bed, great bathroom, super friendly hosts and very clean. Unfortunately, I only stayed two nights, but I would definetly come back.

The hosts were very nice and welcoming and waited till very late to accept me. The location is pretty good, and the shower is great!
What could be improved: The location was very hard for me and for other people (taxi drivers) to find. The bed was really hard and was difficult to sleep on. The hosts don’t really speak EnglishErdalu from Turkey – 27 December 2024 (9/10)

I had a pleasant, cheap stay here. I didn't stay long as I was going to Sapa at 5.30 the next morning. The room is basic, but decent enough. Bear in mind you're basically staying in a Vietnamese family's house, complete with the sort of clutter you might nornally expect to see. If that isn't what you want, try somewhere else, but I didn't mind.
What could be improved: Some people might find the beds a bit hard.
