You know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, and GM Premium Hotel actually surprised me in the best way possible. Right on Hàng Bông Street – which, honestly, most tourists rush past without realizing they’re missing something special – this place sits perfectly between the chaos and the charm that makes this neighborhood so addictive. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but far enough from Tạ Hiện (the beer street madness) that you can actually sleep at night.

The thing about five-star hotels in the Old Quarter is they usually feel forced, like someone tried to jam luxury into a space that wasn’t meant for it. But GM Premium gets it right. The lobby has this warm, sophisticated vibe without trying too hard to be flashy – you walk in and immediately feel like you’ve found your spot in the city. The staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re navigating Hanoi for the first time. And speaking of navigation, they give you these little hand-drawn maps with shortcuts through the maze of streets that even my Grab drivers didn’t know about.

What really sold me was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The rooms are quiet – and I cannot stress enough how rare that is in this part of town. You’ll hear the gentle hum of motorbikes and street life, but not the all-night karaoke sessions that plague some areas. The beds are properly comfortable (not just firm mattresses masquerading as luxury), and there’s actually enough space to open your suitcase without doing yoga moves around the furniture. The bathrooms have those rainfall showers that work properly, plus they stock decent toiletries – little things, but you notice them. Also, the Wi-Fi is genuinely fast, which matters if you’re trying to upload photos or work remotely.

Here’s what I loved most though: the breakfast. Not just because the phở is legit (and it is), but because they serve it until 10:30 AM, which is perfect for those jet-lagged first few days when you’re still figuring out Vietnam time. The rooftop area is where you want to spend your evenings – you can see across the Old Quarter’s jumbled rooftops while sipping a beer that costs a fraction of what you’d pay in hotel bars elsewhere. During quieter moments up there, especially around sunset, you really get a sense of how this ancient neighborhood breathes and moves.

Look, Hanoi can be overwhelming – the traffic, the noise, the constant sensory overload that comes with one of Asia’s most vibrant cities. GM Premium Hotel gives you a genuine home base to retreat to, recharge, and then dive back into the beautiful chaos. At a 9.7 rating, it’s clearly not just me who thinks they’ve figured something out here. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back to Hanoi, partly because you know you’ve got somewhere special to stay.

  I can really recommend this hotel to everyone. Right from the start we were welcomed by the staff very personally, and the fantastic personal service continued throughout our whole stay. From opening doors and asking how our day had gone to giving us fantastic recommendations for restaurants around the city, everything was just perfect. Especially in the front desk Thom Nguyen really made our stay special.
  The rooms were really nice and clean and the beds comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and had lots of options. Also the location is perfect, walking distance from most of the most important sites.
  
  Really good value for money, you probably won't find service like this for this price anywhere else.

  The service from Alex and all the staff was outstanding, from checking if anything was required to make the stay more pleasant to providing recommendations. The location is great as it is central but once in your room the road noise drops away. The rooftop bar was a relaxing way to spend some time and the food from the restaurant was delicious.

  Great location, bed incredibly comfortable, room very clean, staff friendly and helpful. Huge breakfast varieties and very tasty. Room service food also very good food and service was excellent. Awesome view from roof top bar, open until late. It was my 60th birthday and staff went above and beyond, including upgrading our room and made up the bed with a beautiful birthday greeting.

  Service is amazing – better than 5 star hotels. Peter who created a WhatsApp group to help us with various reservations and requests was prompt and excellent. Location in the old quarter is excellent too – easy 5 mins walk to the cathedral and many michelin rated street food nearby. Breakfast is good too (love the coffee) but actually given the amazing food all around, we ended up skipping breakfast on the last day to make space for food.
