So I stumbled onto this little gem on Tràng Tiền Street basically by accident – was looking for something close to Hoan Kiem Lake without the tourist trap pricing, and honestly? The Hanoi-Oi Homestay ended up being one of those happy discoveries that makes you feel like you actually know what you’re doing when you travel.

The thing is, it’s on the second floor of this narrow building (which, you know, is pretty typical for Old Quarter area), and at first I was like, okay, here we go with the sketchy stairs situation. But once you get up there, it’s actually really well put together. The owner clearly gets that foreign travelers want certain things – like decent wifi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and a shower that has actual water pressure. What really got me though was how quiet it stays despite being right in the middle of everything. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the lake, and Tràng Tiền is one of those streets where you can grab proper coffee (not just tourist coffee) and hit up the night market without dealing with motorbike traffic every two seconds. There’s this little bánh mì spot right around the corner that locals actually go to – you’ll see the line of office workers around 11:30am.

The rooms are clean in that way where you can tell someone actually cares about the details, not just going through the motions. Good lighting for reading, enough outlets that you don’t have to unplug the mini-fridge to charge your phone, and – this might sound weird but hear me out – the beds are actually comfortable. Like, I’ve stayed in way more expensive places where you wake up feeling like you got hit by a truck, but these mattresses are solid. The bathroom setup is compact but functional, and the hot water comes fast, which honestly makes or breaks a homestay experience for me. Check-in was straightforward too – none of that awkward waiting around while someone tries to find your reservation on a piece of paper. They’ve got the system down, probably because they get a lot of repeat visitors who know the area. I can see why people come back here when they’re in Hanoi, especially if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying in the actual city instead of some sanitized hotel bubble where everything costs three times what it should.
