Hillary Hanoi Hotel Overview

So I stumbled across the Hillary Hanoi Hotel on Trương Công Giai Street, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. First impression walking in — the lobby’s got this clean, modern vibe without trying too hard to be fancy. You know what I mean? It’s actually refreshing after dealing with some of the over-the-top hotel lobbies you find in this part of town.

The location is pretty smart if you ask me. Cau Giay district isn’t where most tourists end up, which means you’re getting a real slice of Hanoi life without the constant honking and tourist traps of the Old Quarter. I mean, you’re still close enough to everything that matters — maybe 15 minutes by taxi to Hoan Kiem Lake, and there’s this fantastic little pho place just two blocks down that locals actually eat at (not the touristy ones with English menus everywhere). The street itself can get a bit busy during rush hour, but honestly, that’s just Hanoi being Hanoi. By evening it quiets down nicely.

What really surprised me was how the staff actually seemed to care about getting things right. Check-in was smooth, no weird deposit demands or confusing policies. The rooms — well, they’re solid 4-star territory. Nothing groundbreaking, but the AC works properly (crucial in summer), the bed’s comfortable enough that I wasn’t tossing around all night, and the bathroom actually has decent water pressure. Small things, but they matter when you’re dealing with the heat and humidity here. One thing though — if you’re a light sleeper, maybe ask for a room facing away from the street. It’s not terrible, but you’ll catch some early morning motorbike traffic.

The 7.5 rating makes sense to me. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it gets the fundamentals right without any major headaches. I’ve stayed at pricier places in Hanoi that left me more frustrated, honestly. The breakfast spread is decent — mix of Western and Vietnamese options, though don’t expect anything too elaborate. What I appreciated was that they didn’t try to oversell what they were offering. Sometimes that straightforward approach is exactly what you need, especially if you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the city anyway.

If you’re the type who wants to be right in the thick of tourist central, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you don’t mind a short ride to the main attractions and you want to experience Hanoi from a more local perspective, the Hillary Hanoi Hotel does the job well. Plus, you’re saving some money compared to those boutique places in the Old Quarter, and parking is actually manageable here — which anyone who’s driven in central Hanoi will tell you is worth its weight in gold.

Reviews of Hillary Hanoi Hotel

  • Maria from Australia – 19 May 2025 (7/10)

Clean room, lovely staff. Excellent breakfast. They arranged airport pickup which was on time, good driver and vehicle. Best service after long flight to new city and country. Good location if you do not like to be close to noisy main roads. Overall good value.

What could be improved: Small window with small distance to opposite room. But this is to be expected in Hanoi when staying at moderate priced accommodation. No handrails on entry steps. If you have mobility issued not a good place to stay.

  • James from United Kingdom – 5 April 2025 (7/10)

The room was very pleasant and comfortable. The breakfast was reasonable.

  • Justyna from United Kingdom – 26 January 2025 (9/10)

The room was really nice, comfortable,
    good breakfasts.

What could be improved: In the swimming pool area there is not any sunbeds, only two chairs and a swing. That is not very comfortable if you would like to have chill time on the pool.

  • Daniele from Australia – 31 December 2024 (6/10)

    Is nice location

What could be improved: Breakfast area and buffet is to small .. also they asked me to pay 2 bottle of water normally is included

  • Adeleena from Vietnam – 6 May 2024 (8/10)

Very clean rooms, pool was clean too.

What could be improved: Reception Staff said there was no shower gel which is odd because they had shampoo and a tiny hand soap. Breakfast buffet is hit or miss, small selection but good enough if you just want something quick before heading out.

  • Hugo from Portugal – 26 April 2024 (7/10)

    The pool
    The rooms beds

What could be improved: Views are not amazing
    Breakfast could improve

  • Ramlo from Norway – 2 February 2024 (8/10)

  • Lộc from Vietnam – 20 December 2023 (9/10)

    good breakfast

  • Arunav from India – 14 November 2023 (6/10)

Hotel and rooms were very clean and all the amenities were available.

What could be improved: Hotel is a bit far away from central Hanoi. Also dinner option in not available in the hotel. Only breakfast is complimentary with limited dishes. And there was no one from the hotel staff to assist us to the room and had to carry all the luggage on our own.

  • Sergei from Russia – 10 October 2023 (8/10)

Got a bath) clean room, good aircon, pleasant laundry service.

What could be improved: Swimming pool didn't work…so better ask before you go there whether it is available
