Kecho Legacy Hotel Hanoi & Spa Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down that narrow alley – Ngõ Trung Yên looks like any other side street in Hoan Kiem until you spot the Kecho Legacy’s entrance. But man, stepping inside was like entering a completely different world. The lobby hits you with this warm, sophisticated vibe that feels distinctly Vietnamese without being over-the-top touristy, you know? There’s actually this subtle incense scent that follows you around (in a good way), and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see guests rather than just going through the motions.
What really sold me on this place was how perfectly positioned it is – I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but tucked away enough that you don’t get the street noise that plagues so many Hanoi hotels. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than flashy. Mine had this gorgeous hardwood flooring that felt cool under bare feet (crucial in Vietnam’s heat), and the bathroom – well, let’s just say the rain shower was probably the best part of my mornings. The spa downstairs is legit too, not just some afterthought addition. I got a traditional Vietnamese massage that honestly ruined me for hotel spas everywhere else. The therapist knew exactly what she was doing, and the treatment rooms have this zen-like quality that made me forget I was in the middle of a bustling city.
You know what impressed me most though? The little things that show they actually care about the guest experience. The front desk always had great restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps – they sent me to this incredible pho place about three blocks away that I never would’ve found on my own. Check-in was smooth even when I arrived early, and they stored my luggage without any fuss. The WiFi actually works properly (not always a given in Vietnam), and the air conditioning runs quietly, which matters when you’re trying to sleep off jet lag. I stayed during peak season in October, and while the hotel was clearly busy, it never felt chaotic or understaffed. Sure, the rooms aren’t massive by Western standards, but they’re well-planned and comfortable – plus, honestly, who spends that much time in their room in Hanoi anyway? That 9.1 rating makes total sense once you experience how smoothly everything runs here.

Reviews of Kecho Legacy Hotel Hanoi & Spa

Great location. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Sky bar is the best.

A real gem in the old city of Hanoi. It is in a small narrow street and appears like a corner of paradise. Elegant hotel with colonial style, tastefully furnished. Very kind and professional staff. Very charming rooms and environments, fragrant and welcoming. A choice definitely to recommend.
What could be improved: The bathroom is quite small. Not much space to put objects. The door is practically attached to the toilet. The sink and the tub/shower are brass and therefore damaged and not pleasant looking. It's a shame this aspect of the bathroom because otherwise the hotel is wonderful.Christine from United Kingdom – 20 May 2025 (10/10)
Beautifully, tastefully designed and decorate. Extremely clean, quirky features ie red Japanese bridge on rooftop bar. Staff, attentive, polite but still friendly.

The hotel was perfectly located in the heart of the old quarter in a quiet laneway so very quiet. Our room had all we needed with an extra large comfortable bed. The ‘heritage’ feel was a nice touch.

It was the staff in particular that made this hotel special. We had attentive service from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Nothing was too much trouble. A special mention to Anna who gave us a lot of advice and her time. She was always smiling with a great sense of humour and was very knowledgeable. The door staff/porters were warm & welcoming. It always felt good arriving back at the sanctuary of our hotel after the heat & hustle of the Hanoi streets.
The hotel is in the Old Quarter, which could have been quite noisy, yet is very quiet as it is tucked away down a back street.
Spending time on the rooftop bar at night is a must – Vit & Nam,(yes their actual names), both welcoming and great to chat too while we had dinner and a drink.
What could be improved: No gym – a gym that is not in a tiny, windowless, room, with good quality equipment is hard to find in Vietnam. It would be a plus to have this, but given how reasonable in price this hotel was, not expected.
We had some shower drainage issues but minor, and to be expected with the age of the buildings in this area. When we mentioned this, more as a maintenance issue rather than a complaint, the hotel staff apologised profusely and said they would get maintenance on to it straight away, which they did. We were asked several times to let the hotel know if there was anything not to our liking and they would attend to it immediately.Lackshana from United Kingdom – 6 May 2025 (9/10)
The hotel is as described, ideally located, and has excellent facilities. The breakfast was very nice. The staff is incredibly helpful and goes above and beyond to ensure you have a great stay. The room has all the essentials you require, which is handy. Overall, it was a great find within the city, and I would recommend it.
What could be improved: As mentioned in other reviews, the rooms are slightly dim, which I personally did not mind. The hotel also cannot be accessed easily by car as it is located on a side alley, which, during the day, has meat vendors set up on the sides of the road. You have to walk out about 30 seconds to a main road; again, it is not the end of the world.Victor from Israel – 5 May 2025 (10/10)
Very Very nice people. A beautiful hotel, designed with love, has character. Outstanding.
What could be improved: I liked it very muchRichard from Slovakia – 4 May 2025 (9/10)
Good hotel with good staff. Very good breakfast and rooftop bar. Upgraded our room to a bigger one. Nice wooden furniture.
What could be improved: Hidden in a tiny street.
