Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to La Passion on Hang Thung Street – it’s tucked into this narrow alley in the Old Quarter where you’re constantly dodging motorbikes and street food carts. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this place special. You’re literally steps from Hoan Kiem Lake (I mean, you can see it from some of the upper floor rooms), and you’re right in the thick of everything without being stuck in some sterile hotel district.

The spa part isn’t just a fancy add-on either – they actually know what they’re doing. I booked a massage after spending the day wandering around the Ancient Quarter, and the therapist immediately zeroed in on exactly where I was sore from all that walking on uneven sidewalks. The whole place has this calm, almost zen-like atmosphere that’s pretty remarkable considering there’s a bustling street market basically outside your door. The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully designed” rather than flashy – good lighting (which is rarer than you’d think in this part of town), decent soundproofing, and they’ve clearly put some effort into the details. The bathroom actually has proper water pressure, which anyone who’s traveled in Southeast Asia will appreciate.

What really won me over though was how the staff genuinely seems to get what travelers need. They’re not just reciting tourist attractions – they’ll tell you which pho place around the corner is worth the wait, or suggest hitting the night market on Hang Dao Street around 7 PM when it’s busy but not completely insane. The front desk guy (I think his name was Minh?) drew me a little map showing how to cut through the back alleys to avoid the tourist crowds on Hang Bac Street. That kind of local knowledge is gold when you’re trying to experience real Hanoi rather than just checking boxes. The breakfast spread is solid too – they do this Vietnamese coffee that’s strong enough to wake the dead, plus they accommodate Western tastes without making it feel like you’re eating at a chain hotel. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra night because, well, why mess with a good thing? The 9.2 rating makes sense when you experience how they balance being right in the action with creating a genuine refuge from the beautiful chaos that is the Old Quarter.

  Lovely, stylish hotel in great location in old quarter. This was my second time staying here as the room is a very pleasant and calming space. It is walking distance to popular attractions and the beautiful lake. The room was very comfortable with stunning embroidery head board detailing. Staff were generous, friendly and on hand to answer queries. Breakfast was great with a good range of items. I enjoyed the chicken pho particularly.

  Staff was very friendly and helpful! We booked 3 rooms here but they moved us to their sister hotel La Passion Premium which was across the road prior to check in. They messaged on WhatsApp to confirm our arrival time and met us at the front to check in, we were offered a welcome tea and check in was smooth. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the location was very handy for exploring the Old Quarter being 2mins from the lake and the main streets. Take note that at certain times during the day (after 6pm) the street converts to pedestrian only with car access being one street away. Breakfast is a la carte style at La Passion Premium (apparently buffet at La Passion) offering western style and Vietnamese style food.
  
  What could be improved: The water stays quite hot in the bathroom (we couldn’t figure out a way to turn it cooler) and they don’t provide conditioner (only body wash and shampoo).

  The hotel staff is very friendly and will ask if you need any help. The breakfast is unexpectedly delicious. The hotel is in a good location, very close to the downtown area. The only drawback is that the sound insulation is not very good. I can hear the motorcycle horn outside at 5 o'clock in the morning.。
