Madelise Hanoi View Hotel Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Madelise Hanoi View Hotel – it’s tucked away in this narrow alley off Ngô Sỹ Liên in Dong Da district, and you know how these hidden spots can go either way. But the moment I walked into that lobby, I mean, wow. The staff actually remembered my name from the booking email, which never happens, and they had this genuine warmth that felt completely different from the rehearsed smiles you get at most places.

The location is actually brilliant once you figure it out. You’re in Thanh Xuân area, which means you’re close enough to the action but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night – no motorbike horns at 2 AM, thank god. There’s this little café right around the corner that does incredible bún chả (the owner’s grandmother’s recipe, apparently), and you can walk to the bigger streets like Nguyễn Trãi in about ten minutes when you need proper transport. The hotel itself sits in one of those typical Hanoi alleys that feels almost residential, so you get this sense of living like a local rather than being stuck in tourist-land. What really got me was the attention to detail – they’ve got this perfect balance of Vietnamese character and modern comfort. The rooms have these gorgeous traditional touches, lacquered furniture and silk panels, but then you’ve got fast wifi and a rain shower that actually has decent water pressure. The beds are seriously comfortable too, none of that rock-hard mattress situation you sometimes get. And the view – well, it’s not the sweeping lake vista you might imagine, but there’s something charming about looking out over the neighborhood rooftops and watching daily life unfold below.

The thing that really sets this place apart though is how the staff operates. They don’t just give you a map and send you off – they actually sit down and talk through what you want to do, suggest places based on your actual interests, not just the standard tourist circuit. When I mentioned I was interested in local art, the front desk guy (Minh, I think?) drew me a little hand-sketched route to these gallery spaces I never would have found otherwise. And breakfast – they do this mix of Vietnamese and Western options, but the phở they make fresh each morning is honestly better than half the street stalls I tried. The dining area gets this lovely morning light, and you can sit there planning your day without feeling rushed. Look, I’ve stayed in fancier places in Hanoi, but there’s something about the Madelise that just works. Maybe it’s because they seem to genuinely care about whether you have a good experience, or maybe it’s just that sweet spot of comfort and authenticity that’s so hard to find. Either way, I’d definitely go back – and I’m already recommending it to friends heading to Vietnam.

A wonderful short stay in a great location for exploring Hanoi.
A newly renovated hotel with beautiful bedrooms. More renovations needed to finish, but we were very happy with our room.
Thank you to the lovely staff who looked after us exceptionally well.
