Maya Boutique Hotel & Spa Overview

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, and honestly? Most of them feel like they’re trying too hard to be something they’re not. But Maya Boutique Hotel & Spa on Dao Duy Tu Street – this one actually gets it right. First thing you notice walking in is that they’ve managed to blend that classic Vietnamese architecture with modern touches without making it feel like a theme park. The lobby has this gorgeous dark wood and local stone work, and I mean, you can smell the faint incense from the spa the moment you step inside. It’s subtle though, not overwhelming like some places.

What really sold me on this place is the location – and I don’t mean that in the usual “convenient location” marketing speak way. Dao Duy Tu is just far enough from the absolute chaos of the weekend night market (you know, that tourist circus around Hoan Kiem Lake) but you’re still a solid five-minute walk to all the good stuff. The street itself is actually pretty quiet at night, which honestly surprised me given how close you are to everything. You’ve got that amazing bánh mì spot right around the corner on Hang Bong Street – locals line up there every morning around 7 AM, and the hotel staff will actually tell you about it instead of pushing you toward some overpriced tourist breakfast. The spa here is legitimately good too, not just a side business. I had a traditional Vietnamese massage after spending way too many hours walking around the Temple of Literature, and the therapist knew exactly what she was doing. They use local products – lemongrass and ginger oils that actually come from somewhere in the Mekong Delta, the front desk told me.

Here’s the thing about Maya that sets it apart: the staff genuinely seems to care about getting you oriented to the real Hanoi, not just the postcard version. When I checked in, the manager spent like ten minutes explaining which streets to avoid during rush hour (trust me, this matters), where to catch the best street food without getting sick, and even drew me a little map showing the quieter entrance to Hoan Kiem Lake where you won’t get hassled by motorbike taxi drivers every thirty seconds. The rooms are well-designed – nothing fancy, but the AC actually works properly (huge deal in summer), the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the beds are firm in that good way, not in the “sleeping on concrete” way you sometimes get at boutique places. One small thing – the elevator is tiny, so if you’re traveling with massive suitcases, just know you might be taking the stairs. But honestly, for the price point and that 8.9 rating, Maya delivers on the promise of being a proper boutique experience without the pretension. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to hang out in the lobby with a Vietnamese coffee instead of just using it as a place to crash.

Perfect location, junior suite room was cosy and clean, traditional decor. Staff were excellent, they took time to know your name and assisted you whenever you needed anything. We had a few early tours and they made sure we had breakfast before we left. The staff were the highlight!

    What could be improved: Nothing!

Hotel location was excellent – right in the heart of the Old Quarter! Loved how easy it was to walk everywhere, plenty of shops, restaurants and bustling Vietnam traffic.
The staff were also the best we met on our trip – Vietnam's hospitality at its finest. Miss Vy and David were attentive, friendly and always ready to help. They were knowledgable of local surrounds, gave great tips, and recommended the best pho we had on our trip (Pho Khoi Hoi, 10 min walk from the hotel!).
Would definitely come back and recommend this hotel to others
