Meritel Hanoi Overview
You know what struck me first about the Meritel Hanoi? It’s tucked right into this maze of narrow streets in the Old Quarter, and I mean *right* in there – on Hang Bong street where you can barely fit two motorbikes side by side. But somehow that’s exactly what makes it work. You step off the chaotic street (and honestly, the motorbike symphony never really stops, but you get used to it) into this surprisingly polished lobby that feels like someone took a deep breath and said “okay, let’s do this properly.”
The thing about staying here is you’re literally in the thick of everything without feeling like you’re camping out in a backpacker crash pad. I mean, walk two minutes and you’re at Hoan Kiem Lake where all the tai chi happens at dawn – which, by the way, is worth getting up for if you’re into that sort of thing. The other direction gets you deep into the street food labyrinth, and I’m talking about the real stuff, not tourist traps. The hotel staff actually gave me decent recommendations too, which doesn’t always happen. They pointed me toward this pho place on Hang Be that I never would’ve found otherwise – just a plastic stool situation, but incredible broth.
What really gets me about the Meritel is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between local character and actual comfort. The rooms are well-appointed (I stayed on the fifth floor and honestly, the elevator is a blessing when you’re hauling luggage up Vietnamese stairs), but they haven’t gone overboard trying to be fancy. Clean lines, good lighting, and – this matters more than you’d think – really solid air conditioning. The bathroom situation is totally fine, good water pressure, none of that hostel nonsense. I actually slept well here, which in Hanoi’s Old Quarter can be hit or miss depending on street noise and thin walls. They’ve clearly put some thought into soundproofing.
The breakfast spread was… well, it’s hotel breakfast, but they do a decent banh mi and the coffee is properly Vietnamese strong. You can eat on the rooftop terrace if you want to people-watch the morning motorbike rush, which is honestly pretty entertaining. Staff speaks solid English and they’re genuinely helpful with directions, not just the rehearsed tourist stuff. When I needed to figure out the bus to Halong Bay, the front desk guy actually pulled up schedules on his phone and wrote down the stops in Vietnamese for me.
Look, Hanoi can be overwhelming – the traffic, the noise, the sensory overload of the Old Quarter – but staying somewhere like this gives you a proper home base to retreat to. You’re paying for location and reliability here, and with a 9.5 rating, they’re clearly doing something right. It’s not going to be the cheapest option in the area, but sometimes you want to know your shower will be hot and your wifi will actually work when you need to upload all those street food photos.

I stayed at Meritel last Friday night as a solo female traveller from Australia and was truly blown away by the experience. The staff were incredibly kind and hospitable, especially Alex, who went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable.
The spa was hands down the best I have ever experienced. It was professional, relaxing, and beautifully designed. I left feeling completely refreshed. I also loved the rooftop bar, which had a gorgeous view and was the perfect place to unwind in the evening.
Highly recommend Meritel to anyone looking for a luxurious, warm, and memorable stay in Hanoi. I will definitely be back!

Fabulous property in the old quarter of Hanoi. The hotel and rooms are tastefully decorated, the location was fantastic with so much in walking distance, shopping, convenience stores, coffees, train street, and tourist attractions right on your doorstep. The rooms were quiet, beds comfortable, great air conditioning. Most impressed with the staff and their level of customer service. Each staff member I came in contact with went above and beyond to offer their services, assist with queries, provide information on local restaurants and attractions. We left for one night to visit Ha long Bay and on our return were met with a beautiful handwritten card welcoming us back and a complimentary fruit platter. Sadly we had to leave the hotel a day early as we had a change to our flight plans. The gentleman checking us out was very keen to make sure that this change to our itinerary did not leave us with a disappointing end to our holiday. He generously organised airport transport for us and gave us each a small momento of Vietnam.

Decor, location and ambiance, and very a comfortable room. Above all, the staff were attentive and fantastic. Specifically, Anh, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to ensure our stay in the hotel, and in Hanoi, was most enjoyable. Thank you.

The staff could not do enough for you, we arrived after 24hours of Travel and Alex provided us with a welcome drink and all the information we needed before taking our bags up to our room. The hotel was in a central location and the reception staff gave wonderful recommendations for local coffee houses and restaurants. The breakfast was extensive and fresh, so many options of local and western cuisine. There was drink and food service at the roof top pool, beds were comfy and rooms were spacious. We loved our stay here.
