MICHELIA APARTMENT Overview

You know what caught me off guard about MICHELIA APARTMENT? Walking up to this place on Hàng Vôi Street, I was expecting just another standard hotel setup – but honestly, it feels more like staying at a really well-organized friend’s place who happens to have great taste. The whole apartment-style thing isn’t just marketing speak here; they’ve actually nailed that sweet spot between having your own space and getting proper hotel service when you need it.

The location is pretty brilliant, actually. Hàng Vôi runs right through the heart of the Old Quarter, so you’re literally steps from all the chaos and charm of Hanoi’s historic center. I mean, you can hear the morning motorbike symphony starting around 6 AM (fair warning if you’re a heavy sleeper), but that’s part of the authentic Hanoi experience, right? What I loved is that you can duck into the building and suddenly it’s this calm, quiet refuge. The street itself has this great mix – there’s a fantastic bánh mì spot about two doors down that the locals actually use (not just tourists), and you’re maybe a three-minute walk to Hoàn Kiếm Lake when you want that evening stroll. The weekend night market crowd gets pretty thick around here, but if you’re into that energy, it’s perfect.

The apartments themselves feel thoughtfully put together – not that sterile hotel room vibe where everything’s bolted down and impersonal. The kitchenette actually works (I tested it with some street market finds), and there’s real counter space, which is rarer than you’d think in this part of town. Honestly, the 4-star rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi, but everything works well and feels clean and comfortable. The staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood – when I asked about finding good phở that wasn’t touristy, the guy at the front desk gave me actual directions to a place his family goes to, not just the standard recommendations. That 8.5 rating makes sense to me because while it’s really solid and well-located, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches. But sometimes that’s exactly what you want – a place that feels like home base while you’re out exploring, somewhere you can actually relax and maybe cook a simple meal or just spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re camping in a hotel room. If you’re planning to spend your days wandering the Old Quarter and want to come back to somewhere that feels like your own little Hanoi apartment rather than just another hotel room, this place delivers on that promise.

Reviews of MICHELIA APARTMENT

  • Noah from Denmark – 15 January 2025 (9/10)

    Clean and Well kept

  • Teresa from Australia – 28 June 2024 (9/10)

The hostess kindly helped keep our luggage safe for a few days when we travelled to Sapa. The apartment was clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: The bathroom did not have a door, just a screen. The apartment is on the 5th floor and no elevator.

  • Mariam from Italy – 17 June 2024 (9/10)

Ms. Michelia was very responsive, helpful, and easy to communicate with. She gave detailed descriptions about the location and how to access the building entrance and the apartment. An ATM was just a minute's walk from the accommodation. An iron, ironing detergent, and an ironing table were also provided.

What could be improved: The fridge was not cooling sufficiently, but the freezer worked well.

  • B from India – 30 April 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: The room is a bit dark.

  • Burke from United Kingdom – 24 September 2023 (9/10)

This apartment is ideally located – very central, but quite. Spotlessly clean and superb facilities- it was plenty spacious for 4 of us. The host was wonderful – she helped me retrieve my phone from a taxi in Ninh Binh and helped source some delicious vegetarian banh mi restaurants. We would love to stay here again!

What could be improved: Nothing- it was all excellent.

  • Raj from India – 28 August 2023 (9/10)

The studio is amazingly equipped with all the things you might need. The host is really cooperative and prompt. The kitchen and bathroom as well, is very well equipped with everything that one might need for a peaceful stay.

What could be improved: Not something that I didn’t like about it, but yeah, there’s a downside. One has to climb 5 floors to reach to the apartment. Which might mot be suitable for everyone. Although she does provide support for the luggage to be carried up if informed in advance.

  • Joy from Singapore – 22 August 2023 (9/10)

The apartment is strategically located in the old quarter and is close to bus stop that goes to and fro the Noi Bai International airport. The night market and lake area is also within 15min walking distance. Owner stays just next door so it’s easy to reach out if you have any issues provided that she’s at home. Room is comfy and clean. Aircon is a little weak but it works. Hair dryer is also strong enough for my thick long hair. Owner also provided a big jug of water prior to your checkin. Communication is also clear so I can do self checkin. Owner gave the pin to the metal gate via message through Booking.com’s app but just note that the metal gate is right in front of the apartment on the 5th floor, not the big gate on ground floor facing the street. Since the apartment is located on the 2nd street away from the main road, it’s not too noisy at night. The fridge in the room is also cold enough to store your groceries.

There is a big supermart located across the street but it mainly sells imported goods from Asia and Europe.

What could be improved: The apartment is located on the 5th floor with no lift. Luckily there is a cement strip laid over the staircase which probably is meant for bicycles but it works fine to roll my small suitcase up.

You’re also supposed to pay your room fee upon arrival in cash – which the fault is mine since I didn’t read carefully before booking. So be prepared to bring extra cash, or exchange money in the many shops at the night market.

There was suddenly no water at night so owner helped fetched a pail of water for me to freshen up and refilled the pail for my use at night and in the morning. She was very apologetic but very helpful.

What could be improved: The apartment is located on the 5th floor and there was no lift. Luckily they had cement strips layed over the staircase most likely for bicycles but it’s big enough to roll my small suitcase up so I had no issues with the high floor.

You also have to pay cash upon arrival for the room fee – which is my mistake since I didn’t read carefully before booking so the fault is mine.

So in the end I had to exchange more cash for my entire trip.
