Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Pegasy Apartments & Travel, tucked away in that narrow alley off Tô Ngọc Vân, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The location in Tay Ho had me curious though, because you know how this district is – it’s where expats actually live, not just where tourists get shuttled through. And that makes all the difference.

What struck me right away was how the place feels more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed apartment than some sterile hotel. The staff actually remembers your name after day one (which, honestly, doesn’t happen much in Hanoi), and they’re the kind of people who’ll sketch you a little map to the best bánh mì spot three blocks over instead of just pointing vaguely down the street. The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious – I mean, we’re talking about Hanoi here where most hotel rooms feel like upscale closets. You get a proper kitchenette, which becomes invaluable when you want to grab fresh ingredients from the weekend market on Đường Tô Ngọc Vân and actually cook something. The beds are firm in that good way, and the Wi-Fi actually works consistently (trust me, I was on video calls daily).

Here’s what really sold me on the place though – the neighborhood itself. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from West Lake, but more importantly, you’re in the thick of where Hanoi actually lives and breathes. There’s this incredible phở place literally around the corner that opens at 6 AM and sells out by 10, and the local coffee shop two doors down makes cà phê sữa đá that’ll ruin you for the touristy spots downtown. The area gets wonderfully quiet in the evenings – none of that Old Quarter chaos – but you’re not isolated either. I could grab a taxi to Hoan Kiem in fifteen minutes, or rent a motorbike and be cruising around the lake before breakfast. The only real downside? Well, it’s down an alley, so your Grab driver might call you confused the first time, but honestly, that’s half the charm of staying somewhere that feels like a local secret rather than another cookie-cutter hotel experience.

  After these initial issues, my stay improved and seemed like good value for money. The apartment, though lacking some essentials, was generally pleasant. The location was ideal, close to the beautiful lake and everything you need nearby. The room was spaceous, had good Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a smart tv.
  
  Daily room cleaning was provided, though a 'do not disturb' sign would have been appreciated. The staff were friendly, typical of Vietnam and they help you with everything. The complimentary water in the reception was a nice touch. The room is spaceous and also features a charming little balcony. It was a satisfactory stay for the price, but don't expect to be overly impressed.
  
  What could be improved: I arrived around 2 AM, having informed the hotel beforehand about my flight. Despite this, I had to wait 10 minutes for someone to open the door, only to find my room was not ready, because of electricity problems. The staff then escorted me to various hotels to find a room for the night, this wasn't prepared either. Upon returning the next day, my original room still felt unprepared and a little dirty, marking the worst check-in experience I've had, but i'm sure it's usually much better and I was just unlucky because it was in the middle of the night.
  
  The shower occasionally didn't heat up properly, and being located right by the street, expect some noise.

  Nice studio with fully equipped kitchen. You have everything to cook there. Lot’s of markets nearby. I was even able to find good gym, 10-15 min on feet, nearby (TopGym)
  
  What could be improved: The water was rather cold in bathroom, but it wasn’t a big deal to me. Also, make sure you have earplugs, windows are facing the road and it is very busy.
