You know what really got me about Solare De Monte? I wasn’t expecting much from another hotel tucked into Hanoi’s Old Quarter – I mean, how many times can you hear “charming boutique property” before your eyes glaze over? But honestly, this place actually delivers on the hype, and that 9.8 rating isn’t just people being generous.

The location on Nguyen Sieu is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Hang Buom Street where all the good street food happens (there’s this banh mi cart that sets up around 7 AM that locals queue for), but the hotel itself sits on this quieter stretch where you’re not dealing with motorbike horns at 5 AM. I stayed on the third floor and could barely hear the street noise, which – if you’ve been to Hanoi – you’ll know is basically a miracle. The spa part isn’t just a fancy add-on either; they’ve got this compact but really well-designed treatment area on the upper floors, and the massage therapist I had actually knew what she was doing, not just going through the motions like some places.

What really won me over though was how the staff handled things. Check-in was smooth (they had my room ready at 1 PM even though I showed up early), and the front desk guy – I think his name was Duc – gave me this hand-drawn map with actual useful spots marked on it, not just tourist traps. He circled this tiny alley behind the hotel where there’s apparently the best pho ga in the neighborhood, and he was absolutely right. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean, good AC (crucial in summer), decent shower pressure, and they’ve managed to squeeze in some local touches without going overboard with the “authentic Vietnamese experience” thing. I appreciated that they had proper blackout curtains too, because jet lag is real and sometimes you need to sleep until noon without apologizing for it. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the elevator is pretty small – if you’re traveling with giant suitcases, you might be doing some maneuvering. But honestly, for the location and the overall experience, especially being right in Hoan Kiem where you can walk to the lake in five minutes and hit all the main Old Quarter action, it’s hard to find much to complain about. If you’re looking for something that feels boutique-y without the boutique price tag insanity, this is your spot.

  We stayed a total of 6 nights at Solare de Monte hotel in the Old Quarter of Hanoi, in 3 separate visits during our trip. Each time we returned it was like coming home to our family in Hanoi with a wonderful, kind reception with fruit juice awaiting our arrival. The staff here are exceptional! Lily, Zoey, Ben, Sam, Harley and all the other kind people whose names I can't remember (sorry!), thank you for making our stay so comfortable. Our rooms were always spotless, the rooftop bar very cool, the breakfast exceptional and the location just perfect!

  The staff were very accommodating, I can't remember all their names but Lily and Harley especially were very knowledgeable. We loved the pool and the rooftop bar – awesome city view. Will be staying again next time we are in Hanoi!
