You know what caught me off guard about Times City Homestay? It’s actually tucked inside this massive residential complex that feels more like a small city than a hotel area – I mean, Times City is literally one of Hanoi’s biggest mixed-use developments, and honestly, that works in your favor here. The moment you walk into the lobby on Minh Khai, you realize this isn’t your typical tourist trap. The staff genuinely seemed to care about getting you settled, not just processed through the system.

The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” – clean lines, decent-sized beds, and here’s the thing that matters: proper blackout curtains. Trust me on this one, because Times City can get pretty lively with all the residential activity, especially in the mornings when families are getting kids ready for school. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for a 4-star place, with water pressure that actually works (you’d be amazed how often that’s an issue in Hanoi). What really sold me though was the little kitchenette setup – nothing fancy, but perfect for heating up some bánh mì or keeping drinks cold. The air conditioning runs quiet too, which is crucial during those humid summer months when you’re trying to sleep.

Location-wise, well, it’s interesting. You’re definitely not in the Old Quarter with all the tourist chaos, but that’s actually refreshing. Minh Khai puts you in a more authentic part of the city where you’ll see how locals actually live. There’s a decent café downstairs in the complex, and the Times City shopping mall is literally right there when you need groceries or want to escape the heat. Getting to the historical sites takes about 15-20 minutes by taxi (or grab a motorbike taxi if you’re feeling brave), and honestly, having that buffer zone from the tourist madness is kind of nice. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does exactly what it promises without any weird surprises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning a longer trip where I wanted to feel more settled than shuffled around.

  We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, much more spacious than living in a hotel. It is very close to a lot of shops that sell different things you might need. Good range of restaurants with lovely food.

  we chose the location to be close to what we wanted to do
  
  What could be improved: the kitchen and bathroom were filthy, we mentioned this to the lady showing it and she wiped off a little from around the sink. she later brought some scrubbing sponges and some useless little towels. the bedroom was divided from the living room by a sliding glass door, no curtain, totally all visible from the living room, couldn’t shut out the light from the living room. There were a few dirty pots in the cupboard. Quite disappointing. we only used the microwave a few times.
