Phố Huế puts you walking distance from Hoan Kiem Lake – maybe seven minutes if you’re moving at a decent pace – but you’re not dealing with the constant motorbike honking and tour groups that camp out around the lake area. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel where you’ll see locals grabbing bánh mì from corner vendors in the morning, and there’s a decent coffee spot (the kind where they actually know how to pull espresso) just down the street. I’ve stayed in fancier places that felt more isolated from actual Hanoi life, if that makes sense. Here, you get the benefits of being central without feeling like you’re in a theme park version of the city. The building’s quiet at night too – thick walls, good windows – which isn’t something you can take for granted in this part of town.
