Wooden House 38 Hang Cot – 5′ to HoanKiem Lake & Al Noor Mosque Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Wooden House 38 Hang Cot – 5′ to HoanKiem Lake & Al Noor Mosque, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling that’s honestly pretty rare in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. The traditional wooden facade blends seamlessly with the historic street, but there’s something polished about it that hints at the thoughtful renovation inside. I mean, you’re literally five minutes from Hoan Kiem Lake — I timed it — and the Al Noor Mosque is practically next door, which gives this corner of the district a unique multicultural vibe that most tourists never discover.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what makes this four-star spot special: you’re on Hang Cot Street, which is actually one of the quieter lanes in the Old Quarter while still being ridiculously central. That 9.4 location score isn’t just marketing fluff — you can walk to the lake for sunrise photos, grab pho at the legendary Pho Gia Truyen (it’s about three blocks away), and still retreat to relative peace when the motorbike chaos gets overwhelming. The Al Noor Mosque adds this interesting layer to the neighborhood that you don’t get everywhere in Hanoi, and honestly, the call to prayer creates this surprisingly serene moment in the urban madness.

The Rooms

The wooden theme isn’t just in the name — they’ve actually done something thoughtful with traditional Vietnamese carpentry throughout the rooms. Everything feels solid and well-crafted, not like those places where “boutique” means “tiny and overpriced.” The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern without losing character. What really impressed me was the attention to noise control — you know how thin walls can be in Old Quarter hotels, but they’ve clearly invested in proper insulation.

Practical Perks

You know what’s actually game-changing? They have free private parking on-site, which is basically unheard of in this part of Hanoi. If you’re planning day trips or arriving by car, this alone justifies staying here — most hotels will send you to some sketchy lot blocks away. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood too, not just the tourist highlights. They pointed me toward this incredible bun cha place that I never would have found otherwise, tucked away in an alley that doesn’t even show up on Google Maps.

Why Couples Love It

There’s something about this place that just works for romantic getaways — maybe it’s the intimate scale or the way the wooden interiors create this cozy, private feeling even in the heart of a chaotic city. The short walk to Hoan Kiem Lake means you can easily do those sunset strolls that look great on Instagram, and the nearby mosque adds this exotic backdrop that feels authentically Hanoi rather than touristy. Plus, having reliable parking and a peaceful retreat means you can explore the city’s intensity during the day, then actually relax together in the evening without dealing with the usual Old Quarter hassles.

Reviews of Wooden House 38 Hang Cot – 5′ to HoanKiem Lake & Al Noor Mosque

  • Turanovic from Denmark – 25 November 2024 (9/10)

  • Juliet from Vietnam – 11 May 2024 (9/10)

Quynh's place was the perfect place for our visit to Hanoi. It was within short walking distance to the old quarter and to lots of great places to eat and some wonderful lantern shops (if you're into that sort of thing, we are!). The place itself is as described: quite cute. The kitchen was well supplied. Quynh left plenty of bottles of water and even a few snacks for guests, which was a nice gesture. Quynh was always quick to answer our messages and even if we never met in person they seemed very nice and were friendly all the way through. I would return and stay in this place again and recommend it!

  • Alena from United Kingdom – 19 March 2024 (5/10)

Good location, comfortable beds, very clean, great communication with host and we'll equipped

What could be improved: This place does not have two bedrooms but two beds serrated by curtains.
It was quite noisy and we were woken up two mornings at 6am by someone violently vomiting very close-by.
There is mould in the apartment and rats in the allyway that leads to the entrance.
You only get one set of keys which makes things inconvenient when travelling with several people.

Overall it was okay but I'm not sure I'd stay again.

  • Jeannette from New Zealand – 27 May 2023 (6/10)

it was relatively spacious and contained basic equipment

What could be improved: The steps up to it are treacherous. They are very steep and have no adequate handrail. This is specially a problem when carrying a a heavy suitcase.
Inside the apartment there is a significant ledge on the floor at the top of the steep metal stairs. It would be very easy to trip over the ledge and fall directly down the stairs with possibly fatal outcomes.

  • Banjuman from France – 21 April 2023 (9/10)

The location is exceptional, a block away from the touristic area and a block away in the other direction from the real Hanoi with the locals.
Quynh was very quick to answer any question and was super helpful when we needed him to book an early taxi pickup for the airport.
The apartment was comfortable, spacious, and well equipped, and the WiFi was excellent.
    Felt like home in Hanoi.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Stephan from Germany – 29 March 2023 (9/10)

  • Dongpil from Vietnam – 5 September 2022 (7/10)

현지 여행지와 가까워서 이동하기에 아주 좋은 장소임

What could be improved: 좀 노후된 전통가옥이었다 그런 나름되로 느낌은 좋았다
