Amira Hotel Hanoi Overview

You know that feeling when you stumble onto a narrow alley in Hanoi’s Old Quarter and think “there’s no way there’s actually a nice hotel down here”? That’s exactly what happened with Amira Hotel Hanoi. I mean, Ngõ Gạch is literally this tiny lane off Hàng Buồm street – you’ll walk past it twice before you realize that’s where you’re supposed to turn. But honestly, that’s part of what makes this place so special.

The moment you step inside, it’s like someone hit the reset button on all that chaotic Old Quarter energy. The lobby actually feels serene, which is pretty remarkable considering you’re maybe fifty meters from some of the busiest streets in Hanoi. What really got me was how the staff seemed to know exactly what you needed before you asked – they had my room ready early without me even requesting it, and when I mentioned wanting to try bún chả, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward some tourist trap. He actually drew me a little map to this place on Hàng Mành where locals eat (and it was incredible, by the way). The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully done” – not trying too hard to be fancy, but everything works perfectly. The bed was firm enough that I didn’t wake up with a sore back, the AC was quiet, and the bathroom had actual water pressure, which… well, if you’ve traveled around Southeast Asia, you know that’s not always a given.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location is honestly perfect for exploring the Old Quarter on foot, but it’s tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with motorbike horns at 6 AM. You can walk to Hoan Kiem Lake in about three minutes, and all those little coffee shops on Hàng Gai are right there. The weekend night market practically happens on your doorstep, but somehow the hotel stays peaceful. I was there during Tet season when everything gets absolutely crazy, and I could still get a decent night’s sleep. The rooftop area – and they don’t really advertise this much – has these views over the old shophouse rooftops that are pretty magical around sunset. You can see glimpses of the lake and watch the evening chaos unfold below while sipping a beer. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not about luxury amenities or anything flashy, it’s about getting all the important stuff right. Good location without the noise, helpful staff who actually know the neighborhood, and rooms that feel like a proper retreat after a day of navigating Hanoi’s beautiful madness. If you’re planning to spend your days wandering the Old Quarter and want somewhere genuinely comfortable to come back to, this is exactly the kind of place you’re looking for.

  • Mirjam from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (10/10)

Very nice small hotel in the north of the old town and therefore close to the bus station where the airport bus stops. We stayed here twice, once on the 2nd floor which was noisy and once on the 5th which was a lot quieter and the view from the balcony was also much better. The room is very modern and clean and we felt very comfortable. It has a nice decor and wasn't dated like another hotel we stayed at in Hanoi. The bathroom was small but also modern and clean. Breakfast was a good mix of Western and Vietnamese. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I loved the Amira and would stay again.
