But here’s the thing about Vinhomes Ocean Park that you won’t get from those sterile hotel websites: this place is actually incredible, and that weird apartment name is just because you’re staying in what’s essentially Vietnam’s version of a luxury residential complex that happens to rent out units.

The 27th floor bit isn’t just marketing fluff – you’re literally up there with proper panoramic views of Hanoi that’ll make you forget you’re technically in Gia Lam district. I mean, most people don’t even know Gia Lam exists, but it’s where locals are actually moving these days because places like this offer way more space than you’d get in the old quarter for half the price. The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home (because it probably is when you’re not there), complete with a full kitchen that works, decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and – this surprised me – really good water pressure in the shower. You know how rare that is in Vietnam? The building has that new-money Vietnamese aesthetic going on, all marble and gold accents, which sounds tacky but somehow works.

What I really loved, though, is how it sits in this whole planned community thing they’ve got going. There’s an actual artificial beach – yeah, I know, artificial beach in Hanoi sounds ridiculous, but kids are building sandcastles and everything. The complex has its own shopping areas, restaurants, even a decent coffee shop that does proper Vietnamese coffee without the tourist markup. Getting into central Hanoi takes about 30 minutes by Grab, maybe 45 in traffic, and honestly? Sometimes I didn’t want to leave. The whole Vinhomes setup feels like this weird bubble of modern Vietnam that’s kind of fascinating to experience. Plus, parking is actually free and easy, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Old Quarter traffic will appreciate. The only downside – and this is minor – is that room service options are limited since you’re basically in someone’s apartment, but with that kitchen and all the food options downstairs, it’s really not an issue. If you want to see how middle-class Vietnamese families actually live when they’ve got some money, this is your chance.
