Center of Hoan Kiem Lake – 1 bed room, maximum 2 people Overview

Okay, so you know how everyone says “location, location, location” but then half the time you end up somewhere that’s technically central but feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere? Well, this little apartment on Ngõ Hàng Hành is absolutely not one of those places. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake – and I’m talking about the good side, where all the action happens around the Ngoc Son Temple area, not the quieter stretch near the post office.

The space itself is pretty much what you’d expect from a well-done Hanoi renovation – they’ve managed to squeeze a proper bedroom, decent bathroom, and a little kitchenette into what was probably someone’s family home decades ago. The bed’s actually comfortable (I was worried about this, honestly, after some experiences in Old Quarter guesthouses), and there’s this nice touch where they’ve kept some of the original tile work but added modern touches that don’t feel forced. The air conditioning works – crucial during those sticky summer months when Hanoi turns into a sauna. What really got me though was the morning light coming through the windows; there’s something about the way it hits the narrow alley that makes you feel like you’re in one of those atmospheric Vietnamese films.

Here’s the thing about staying right in the heart of the Old Quarter like this – you’re going to hear the city waking up. Motorbikes start their symphony around 6 AM, vendors calling out their wares, the general hum of Hanoi doing its thing. But honestly? That’s part of the charm. You’re not isolated in some sterile hotel tower; you’re right in the thick of it. Walk out the door and you’ll hit Hang Ma Street in about thirty seconds, which means you’re surrounded by some of the best street food in the city. That bánh mì stall on the corner – the one with the tiny plastic stools that are always occupied – they know what they’re doing. And if you’re feeling fancy, there are some excellent restaurants tucked away in the surrounding alleys that most tourists never stumble across.

The owners clearly put thought into this place – there’s fast wifi (tested it extensively), decent water pressure, and they’ve stocked the kitchenette with basics so you can grab some fruit from the market and actually use it. Check-in was smooth, though fair warning: the alley is narrow enough that you’ll want to pack light or at least be prepared for a bit of a walk with your luggage from wherever your taxi drops you off. But that 9.3 rating isn’t just for show – this really is one of those places where someone’s paying attention to the details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days, not just passing through.

  • Teresa from United States – 5 June 2025 (10/10)

    Great host, nice hospitality

What could be improved: 5 flights of steps

  • Jana from Germany – 2 June 2025 (9/10)

Very friendly host, very central location.
    Room was clean and comfortable.

  • Rory from United Kingdom – 9 May 2025 (10/10)

Very convenient location, close to attractions but also on a quieter side street. The host was lovely and asked what time we would like the free breakfast and coffee to be brought to our room the next morning, which was really nice! The bathroom is small but nice, the AC was much appreciated and a 5L bottle of drinking water was a nice touch, especially as we could put it in the mini fridge to keep cool.

What could be improved: We got very hot and sweaty walking up the 4 flights of stairs to the apartment with our backpacks. But the AC and a cold shower cooled us down afterwards

  • Laura from Australia – 3 May 2025 (8/10)

The hostess was very friendly and welcoming. The bed was comfortable. The location is perfect with easy access to restaurants, cafes, and tourist spots. Overall, it was good value for money.

What could be improved: The cleanliness could be improved, especially in the bathroom. Some minor details could be better maintained, but nothing major.

  • Rebecca from United States – 25 April 2025 (9/10)

Tiny room but soooo cozy! Softest wonderfully plush bed/bedding and a surprisingly nice little bathroom too. Has everything you need for a day or two & the host is lovely and welcoming and brought us a little breakfast one day 🥰 Also, despite being in THE MIDDLE of the French quarter (so convenient but very busy) it was shockingly quiet at night

  • Karina from Poland – 6 March 2025 (10/10)

  • Lurdes from Ireland – 12 September 2024 (10/10)

I absolutely love everything ❤️ The lady who runs the accommodation went beyond and above and made our stay very special. It really felt like being at home. For starters, when we arrived, she offered us cold drinks to cool down from the heat, and then she took the time to explain how everything worked in the room. She also gave us her personal phone number to communicate via WhatsApp in case we needed anything. Two days later, the typhoon Yagi hit Hanoi, and we couldn't go outside. She prepared lovely banh bao (vietnamese steamed dumplings) for breakfast with coffee, and she cooked pho (vietnamese noodles soup) for dinner as well. Not only was the food delicious, but it was also very comforting. We really appreciated that gesture. She also did our laundry and allowed us to extend our checkout time, with no extra charge for any of the things. She definitely is the perfect host. Every day, she checked on us to make sure we were fine and in case we needed anything. The room itself is perfect. There is a big bed and a big wardrobe, a desk in case you need to work, a kettle and teas. There is AC and a fan, too. The room has a private bathroom as well, and the shower is great. She also provided with handsoup, shampoo, and shower gel, as well as some body creams. The accommodation is in the best location possible at 5 minutes to Hoan Kiem Lake and the old quarter. There you have plenty of restaurants to eat food. Just at the doorstep, you have Em cafe & restaurant, the note cafe, the hidden Alley cafe, honestly all amazing. And there are also convenient shops around too. The accommodation is 15 minutes to the train station too, and around plenty of bus stops.

What could be improved: Love everything ❤️

  • Mơ from Vietnam – 1 August 2024 (10/10)

Nice room, full of equipments like a fridge, an iron, a hair dryer, a kettle,… even shampoo, body wash, hair conditioner, tissue, sunscreen, tea, q-tip, water are provided. The lady who welcomed us was more than excellent. She’s caring and helpful. She even offered late checkout which meant a lot to us. I highly recommend this accommodation.

What could be improved: Not thing.
