Hanoi Garden Hotel & Spa Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked into the Hanoi Garden Hotel & Spa – I mean, it’s tucked away on this tiny street called Phố Chả Cá, and you’d literally miss it if you weren’t looking for it. But that turned out to be exactly what made it special. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that just washes over you, which is pretty remarkable considering you’re basically in the heart of Hoan Kiem district where motorbikes are constantly buzzing around outside.

The location is actually genius once you figure it out. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake – and I mean the good part where locals do their morning tai chi, not just the touristy bits. The street itself is named after chả cá, that famous Hanoi grilled fish dish, and there are some incredible little family-run places serving it just steps from the hotel entrance. What I loved most was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood – they’d give you directions to places that aren’t in guidebooks, like this tiny coffee shop where the owner has been roasting beans the same way for thirty years. The spa part isn’t just a marketing add-on either; they’ve got this treatment room on the upper floor where you can actually hear the faint sounds of street life below, but it feels more soothing than distracting. I had a massage there after walking around the Old Quarter all day, and the therapist knew exactly which muscles were screaming from navigating those uneven sidewalks.

The rooms have this understated elegance – nothing flashy, but everything works perfectly. The air conditioning is quiet (crucial in Vietnam’s humidity), the Wi-Fi actually reaches every corner, and the beds are firm in that way that makes you sleep better than you do at home. You know what really impressed me though? The little details. Fresh flowers that get changed daily, not just when they start wilting. Water pressure that doesn’t give up during peak hours. And the breakfast – well, it’s not huge, but they make this Vietnamese coffee that’s better than most cafes I tried around the city. The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi, but it nails everything that actually matters when you’re traveling. Plus, the front desk staff somehow remember your name after one conversation, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re dealing with the beautiful chaos of Hanoi street life all day and just want to come back somewhere that feels like a sanctuary.

I stayed at Hanoi Garden Hotel and Spa for five nights, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The hotel is perfectly located in the Old Quarter – close to everything, yet peaceful and charming. My room was cozy and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious every day, and the whole atmosphere of the hotel made me feel completely at home.

A very special thank you to Anna at the front desk, who made my stay extra memorable. She was not only professional and efficient, but also incredibly warm, helpful, and welcoming. She helped me solve several small issues a gave a lot of good advice during my stay in a way that was both kind and competent.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone. I will definitely come back next time I’m in Hanoi.

The staff were exceptional. It's a lovely, small hotel located in the Old Quarter which is a great area to stay in. Walking distance to markets, shops, the lake and other tourist sites. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

What could be improved: It's very hard to fault but hot tea and coffee in the morning would have been better!

Everything! Excellent location, the most friendly and helpful staff we've experienced in Vietnam. Huge room with a big (actual) window and a massive and extremely comfortable bed. Cozy breakfast room with plenty of delicious options. I'll be back there next time I'm in Hanoi.
