Centraltique Downtown – Bespoke Colonial House Near Hoan Kiem Lake Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Centraltique Downtown? Walking up to this narrow colonial building on Hàng Bồ street, I honestly expected another cramped Old Quarter hotel with paper-thin walls and zero character. Instead, I found this surprisingly spacious place that actually feels like someone’s well-appointed home – if that someone happened to have excellent taste and a thing for French colonial architecture. The lobby’s got these gorgeous original wooden floors that creak just enough to feel authentic without being annoying, and the staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood inside and out rather than just rattling off tourist trap recommendations.
Here’s the thing about staying this close to Hoan Kiem Lake – and I mean close, like a three-minute walk through the maze of motorbike-filled alleys – you’re right in the thick of everything without the chaos directly outside your window. The rooms are definitely well-appointed (though not huge, this is the Old Quarter after all), and the colonial touches feel intentional rather than gimmicky. I particularly loved the wooden shutters and the way they’ve kept the high ceilings while adding modern touches that actually work. The AC runs quietly, which matters more than you’d think when it’s 90 degrees and humid outside. Honestly, the breakfast situation impressed me too – they serve it in this lovely little courtyard area, and it’s a solid mix of Vietnamese and Western options that doesn’t feel like an afterthought.
What really sells this place, though, is the location knowledge the staff brings. When I asked about getting to Temple of Literature without dealing with tourist traps, the front desk guy drew me a little map showing which alleys to cut through and mentioned that Thursday mornings are way less crowded. That’s the kind of insight you can’t fake. The 8.3 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect (the WiFi can be spotty on the top floor, and the elevator is… well, let’s call it vintage), but it delivers on what matters most. You’re paying for a genuine Old Quarter experience without sacrificing comfort, and you’re surrounded by actual Hanoi life rather than a sanitized tourist bubble. Plus, there’s something satisfying about staying in a building that’s clearly been loved and maintained rather than just flipped for maximum profit.

The place was central, everything was near and very comfortable stay

It was so clean, host was super helpful. Though she knows a little bit if English but she tried to understand every bit of thing by using translator app. She allowed my early checkin and late checkout that too in a minimum budget. Room was cozy and super clean. Bathroom with all the amenities. Patio was the plus. Everything is just a stone throw away.
What could be improved: Everything was good.Sadie from United Kingdom – 3 May 2025 (8/10)
Very clean and comfortable property in a fantastic location.
What could be improved: The only issue was the the AC in our room wasn’t working, however there was a smaller fan at least.Wimalnart from Thailand – 26 April 2025 (8/10)

It had a good location and it was at a little coffee place.
The staff made it possible to check in early l.
Rooms where spacious enough
What could be improved: Soundproofing was not so good, we heard the upstairs neighbours at night that was a little annoying.
Small staircase to reach the bedroomsRosalyn from Malaysia – 22 March 2025 (9/10)
Excellent location, very central. Coffee shop downstairs is fantastic.
What could be improved: There is no elevator, and the staircase is narrow and a little bit steep. If you have big luggages, it can be quite challenging. Pro tip: ask for a lower room floor 😊Tharuka from Sri Lanka – 21 March 2025 (8/10)
Situated in a good area with many tourist attractions and restaurants. Facilities are old, but was okay. Very clean and the staff were very friendly. They even arranged us an airport shuttle where the price was lower than Grab.
What could be improved: Had to climb 5 floors for our room as there was no elevator. Facilities were old, okay.Janessa from Canada – 12 March 2025 (9/10)
Nice spot to locate yourself for the old quarter. Spacious room with all the amenities you may need.
What could be improved: Noisy street noise. Really noisy. Honking, and music playing (mostly advertising going by). We were ok with earplugs but it’s on the edge of too much.Romesh from Australia – 25 January 2025 (8/10)
Close to the major locations. Room was neat and clean. Had a cooker with utensils.
What could be improved: We were on the 4th floor and there is no escalator. Was difficult carrying our luggage up the steep and narrow staircase.Ta from Vietnam – 17 January 2025 (7/10)
What could be improved: The motorbike parking place
