Concon house Overview

You know those places where you stumble in expecting nothing special and end up completely surprised? That’s Concon House for you. Tucked away in this tiny alley called Ngõ Nội Miếu off Hàng Buồm street, it’s honestly one of those finds that makes you feel a bit smug about your travel choices. I mean, you’re literally steps from all the Old Quarter chaos – the weekend night market, those incredible bánh mì stands, the lake where everyone does tai chi at dawn – but once you duck into this little lane, it’s like someone hit the volume button down.

The thing about this place is it actually feels like someone’s home that just happens to have really good taste and extra bedrooms. The owner clearly gets what travelers want without making it feel all corporate and sterile. When I checked in, there was this whole conversation about the best phở spots nearby (and honestly, their recommendations were spot-on), plus they drew out this hand-sketched map showing the shortcut to Hoàn Kiếm Lake that avoids the motorbike madness on the main streets. The rooms themselves are clean and thoughtfully done – not fancy exactly, but everything works and there are these nice touches like local artwork and decent lighting for reading. The air conditioning actually cools the room, which… well, if you’ve stayed in budget places in Hanoi’s summer, you know that’s not always a given.

What really sold me though was the morning routine there. You wake up to the sounds of the neighborhood coming alive – vendors calling out, motorbikes puttering past, someone’s grandmother probably arguing with a taxi driver – but it’s not overwhelming because you’re just removed enough from the main street. The breakfast spread is nothing elaborate, but they nail the basics and the coffee is strong enough to prepare you for a day of temple-hopping and market wandering. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the staff genuinely seems to like working there? They’re not just going through the motions, they actually care if you find that silk shop you’re looking for or need help booking a Ha Long Bay trip. I’ve stayed at fancier places in Hanoi that felt way more transactional. For the price point and that location – seriously, you can walk to everything worth seeing in the Old Quarter – it’s pretty hard to beat. Just don’t expect a pool or room service, because that’s not what this place is about.

Beautiful room set up in a cozy space. Cute little notch (balcony) to have a cup of coffee. In the heart of Hanoi but no noise related complaints from my end. The host was also super nice and helpful.

This hotel is tucked away down a quiet alley, but right in the heart of old downtown – shops, food, sights all seconds away. The architecture is super cool and modern, and the rooms very comfortable. Really enjoyed it!
