Conifer Boutique Hotel Overview

Honestly, I walked past Conifer Boutique Hotel three times before I actually found it on Ly Dao Thanh Street – which, looking back, was kind of perfect because it meant I wasn’t dealing with the chaos of being right on the main drag. This little street sits just off the Old Quarter madness, and you know what? That’s exactly where you want to be in Hanoi. Close enough that you can dive into the street food scene and night market energy in about two minutes, but tucked away enough that you’re not getting woken up by motorbikes at 5 AM (well, not as many anyway).

The lobby hit me with this really nice woody smell – turns out the whole place has this subtle forest theme going on, hence the name I guess. The staff actually remembered my name after the first day, which doesn’t happen often at hotels this size. My room was on the fourth floor, and while the elevator’s perfectly fine, I’d recommend the stairs if you can manage it – you get these little glimpses of the street life through the stairwell windows that somehow make the whole experience feel more authentic. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully compact” – not huge, but everything’s placed so well that you’re not bumping into furniture or digging through your suitcase on the bed. The bathroom’s got one of those rainfall showers that actually works (you’d be surprised how often they don’t), and the water pressure’s solid even on the higher floors.

What really sold me on this place was the breakfast situation – they do this Vietnamese-Western hybrid thing that works way better than it sounds. Sure, you can get your standard eggs and toast, but the pho they serve in the morning is legitimately good, and the coffee… I mean, it’s Vietnam, so of course the coffee’s incredible, but they really know what they’re doing here. The rooftop area’s worth mentioning too – it’s not fancy or Instagram-perfect, but it’s got these plastic chairs and tables where you can actually sit with a beer in the evening and watch the organized chaos of Hanoi happening below. During the day you can see all the way to the lake, which is maybe a seven-minute walk if you’re moving slow.

The location really is the secret weapon here. You’re close enough to Hoan Kiem Lake that you can join the morning exercise crowds if that’s your thing, but you’re also perfectly positioned for wandering into the narrow streets where the real food action happens. That little alley behind Dong Xuan Market? Five-minute walk. The weekend night market? Same deal. And when you need a break from the sensory overload that is Hanoi street life, you can actually retreat to somewhere quiet. The WiFi’s reliable (tested it on video calls), the AC works without sounding like a freight train, and the whole vibe just feels… balanced, I guess. It’s not trying too hard to be boutique-y, but it’s definitely a step up from the backpacker spots without the stuffiness of the big international chains.

Reviews of Conifer Boutique Hotel

  • Dany from United States – 14 May 2025 (9/10)

Close to Hoan Kiem lake, opera house. The room was clean and quiet. The breakfast was good.

What could be improved: not much

  • Clair from Australia – 12 May 2025 (9/10)

Location. staff were friendly and helpful. we checked in late and then left very early so did not have the opportunity to use the restaurant facilities down stairs, but there were many people looking relaxed and happy on our arrival. upon early departure we had breakfast packs prepared for us to take with us, which was very much appreciated. Room size was magnificent.

What could be improved: having to climb up into the bath to take a shower , and then due to being tall, i kept bumping my head on what looked to be a defunct shower head. But not a problem for anyone average to short in stature.

  • Yanis from Hong Kong – 11 May 2025 (9/10)

Great location, with charming terraces around, art galleries, fancy shops. Next to the Hoan Kiem lake but slightly more remote so much quieter. Value for money.

What could be improved: Breakfast is a bit boring.

  • Artem from Belgium – 31 March 2025 (8/10)

Elegant and well-managed hotel. Unfortunately the noise from the construction sight across the street was too intense for us to fully enjoy our stay.

Elegant and well-managed hotel. Unfortunately, the noise from the construction site across the street was too much to relax during the day – but EVERY place in the country seems to have a noise issue.

  • Kristine from Australia – 25 March 2025 (9/10)

Location was close to Lake Hoan Kiem but far enough away for an interesting evening walk back to hotel. Staff were attentive and helpful. Comfy bed, good shower, great food

What could be improved: Bath plug didn’t work properly

  • Roman from Russia – 21 February 2025 (9/10)

The best location near Opera house, classy rooms (and interior/exterior also), excellent breakfast and staff. I’ve stayed in several more similar hotels at this area, but it is the best.

  • James from United States – 3 February 2025 (9/10)

Location and value are quite special. We like being off a busy street but close to many stores and venues.

What could be improved: Breakfast area is a little small but has always been workable for us.

  • Amy from United Kingdom – 2 January 2025 (9/10)

We were able to check in as soon as we landed in the early morning which we were so grateful for! Lovely hotel.

  • Chrissy from Slovakia – 1 January 2025 (8/10)

Nice location, helpful staff. Made to order eggs and omelette just need to ask
