Hanoi Royal Palace Hotel 2 Overview

You know what struck me first about the Hanoi Royal Palace Hotel 2? It’s actually tucked into this perfect spot on Hang Bong Street where you get the real Old Quarter energy without the complete chaos of some of the main drags. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake – and I’m talking about the good entrance where locals do their morning tai chi, not the touristy side packed with street food vendors trying to flag down every foreigner.

The hotel itself feels like someone took a traditional Vietnamese building and gave it just enough modern touches without going overboard. Check-in was honestly refreshing – no fake smiles or overly rehearsed English, just genuine helpfulness from staff who actually seemed to know the neighborhood. My room on the fourth floor had this narrow balcony (typical Old Quarter style) where I could watch the morning motorbike ballet below while drinking coffee that was, well, decent enough. The AC worked properly, which honestly isn’t a given in this part of town, and the shower had good pressure – two things that matter way more than fancy marble when you’re dealing with Hanoi’s humidity and dust. One thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs. The street comes alive around 5:30 AM with vendors setting up, but that’s just authentic Hanoi life happening right outside your window.

What really sold me on this place was how the location lets you actually live like you’re part of the neighborhood for a few days. There’s this incredible pho spot literally around the corner on Hang Buom that doesn’t even have a sign – just look for the tiny plastic stools and the line of locals at 7 AM. The hotel’s about a ten-minute walk to the night market area, but you’re far enough away that you can escape back to relative quiet when the tourist circus gets overwhelming. Staff gave me solid recommendations too – not the usual “go to Temple of Literature” stuff, but actual insider knowledge like which entrance to use at Dong Xuan Market to avoid the worst crowds, and the best time to walk around the lake without dodging tour groups. The 8.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi, but it delivers exactly what you want from a four-star in the Old Quarter: comfort, authenticity, and a location that puts you right in the middle of everything that makes this city incredible. Plus, having a reliable place to retreat to after navigating Hanoi’s beautiful madness all day? That’s worth its weight in Vietnamese dong.

    Friendly staff and great located

  • Patrick from Australia – 7 May 2025 (10/10)

The hotel is very well located in the old quarter of Hanoi. Rooms are clean and spacious, which are a higher standard than a 4 star hotel.

  • Zaher from Saudi Arabia – 7 May 2025 (10/10)

We stayed at the Royal Palace Hotel for 6 nights. We arrived very late, so it was a relief to be seen to so quickly to get to our rooms.
There were four of us with 3 rooms. Breakfast was included with our room, and it was more than sufficient, something to please everyone.
Our rooms were very spacious, comfortable, clean and tidy, none of us could complain.
The hotel is situated in a pretty convenient spot, plenty of shops and historical landmarks within walking distance.
The big drawcard for us was the staff, so completely friendly and helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble for them.
We would all definately stay here again next time we visit Hanoi.

Great friendly staff that spoke good English and were eager to help. We arrived tired and they really picked up our spirits. Then they were very helpful in booking some transportation and other out of the area plans. Location puts you right in the heart of the old city without too much noise.

What could be improved: Some outside noise, but acceptable given all the chaos on the streets.
