You know what struck me first about Eco Nest? It’s tucked away in this tiny alley off Hoang Hoa Tham – I mean, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking for it. But that’s actually perfect because once you’re inside, you realize you’ve found something pretty special in one of Hanoi’s most authentic neighborhoods.

The place has this calm, sustainable vibe that doesn’t feel forced or gimmicky. I stayed there last spring, and honestly, the attention to eco-friendly details impressed me without being preachy about it. The rooms are thoughtfully designed – not huge, but everything has its place, and the natural materials they use make the space feel warm rather than sterile. What really got me was how quiet it is at night, which is saying something in Hanoi. The little alley (Ngo 55, if you’re navigating) acts like a buffer from the main street noise, so you can actually sleep with the windows open and hear… well, not much except the occasional motorbike.

The location is honestly fantastic if you want to experience local Hanoi without being stuck in the tourist bubble of the Old Quarter. Ngoc Ha ward is where actual Hanoians live – there’s this great pho place about three minutes’ walk away that doesn’t even have a sign, just plastic stools on the sidewalk and the best broth I had during my entire trip. Ba Dinh district puts you close to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Temple of Literature, but you’re also walking distance from Truc Bach Lake, which most tourists skip but locals love for evening strolls. The staff – and I’m not just saying this – genuinely know the neighborhood and will point you toward hole-in-the-wall spots you’d never find otherwise.

Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend messaging them your arrival time because the entrance is easy to miss. The building’s got character – it’s one of those narrow Hanoi houses that goes up rather than out, so there are stairs, but nothing too crazy. I stayed during the shoulder season in April, and it felt like having the place mostly to yourself. I imagine it gets busier during peak months, but the intimate size means it probably never feels crowded. The 9.5 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting – it’s not luxury in the marble-lobby sense, but it’s thoughtful hospitality in a genuinely cool part of the city that most visitors never see.

  Good location away from old quarter. Close to B52 lake. Pretty quiet. Nhung was a pleasant manager with good English.
  Well appointed room with a little balcony and kitchenette. No view to speak of, I was on the second floor though. Good shower.

  I loved staying here.So much so I’m thinking a long term rental next year when I come back.
  She moved me at my request to a higher floor room so the views were better.I booked two extra nights as well.Just a lovely modern self sufficient studio with plenty of room.Literally every thing you need in kitchen and a nice compact sofa with table to eat at.

  ATM is now behind big hotel place to the left on Main Street.Lots of food near buy mostly Thai as this isn’t really a touristy location.Very local as I like it.
  
  What could be improved: The lower floor I had ants (not peppered with them) in kitchen and balcony.Higher floor didn’t.
  Just make sure you empty bin every day and don’t leave food bits any where which attracts them.That should sort it.Very minor.
  The Main Street is almost impossible to cross so be be brave and hold your had up.

  Room, location, and host (Nhung) were all amazing. Room photos are a true representation. The room is safe, comfortable, and with all the amenities. Perfect location, that is just far enough away from the craziness of the Old Quarter. There is a large grocery store (Winmart) across the road at Sun Plaza, and a convenience store (Circle K) about 100m away on same street. Nhung is an excellent host, and responds promptly to any questions or requests. We will be back…

  Nhung was very helpful and arranged a car to meet me at the airport for my arrival close to midnight, and greeted me at the premises.
  The weather was extremely hot so my air conditioned room was a welcome luxury.
