Era Cozy Apartment Overview
So I stumbled across Era Cozy Apartment tucked away in this quiet alley off Yen Hoa Street, and honestly, it’s one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something the tour groups haven’t figured out yet. The location in Cau Giay is actually brilliant if you know Hanoi at all – you’re far enough from the Old Quarter chaos to get proper sleep, but close enough to hop on a motorbike taxi and be in the thick of things in fifteen minutes. The neighborhood has this authentic residential vibe where you’ll see locals doing their morning tai chi in the small park nearby, and there’s a fantastic pho place literally around the corner that doesn’t even have a sign in English.
The apartment itself lives up to the “cozy” part of its name, though I mean that in the best possible way. It’s not huge, but everything’s been thoughtfully designed – the kind of place where you can tell someone actually lives here sometimes, not just a sterile hotel room. The kitchen’s small but functional (I made coffee there every morning), and the bathroom has one of those rainfall showerheads that actually works properly, which honestly surprised me given the price point. What really sold me was the little balcony overlooking the alley – you get these glimpses of daily Vietnamese life, kids heading to school, the occasional street vendor calling out. The Wi-Fi’s solid too, which matters if you’re trying to work remotely. I will say the walls are a bit thin, so you might hear neighbors coming and going, but it’s never been disruptive late at night.
The 7.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it punches way above its weight for what you pay. The owner’s responsive on messaging apps, and they’ve got this system where someone meets you right at the building entrance, which is clutch because finding the exact alley can be tricky the first time. You know what I really appreciated? They stock the fridge with local beer and leave proper Vietnamese coffee, not the instant stuff. Small touches like that matter when you’re jet-lagged and everything feels foreign. If you’re the type who needs a concierge and room service, this isn’t your spot, but if you want to feel like you’re actually living in Hanoi for a few days rather than just visiting, Era Cozy hits that sweet spot perfectly.

It's a nice place
Dev from Australia – 28 March 2025 (8/10)
Location. It is a backstreet with lots of food and all sorts. Away from Hanoi old city it is only a 20 minute grab bike taxi ride. Its very quiet and you don't see many travellers around.
The lady downstairs in front of the hotel makes the best soup.
Great WIFI, lots of hot water. Affordability. Microwave.
What could be improved: The bed. The kitchen has a lack of utensils such as forks and wooden spoons.Denis from Russia – 4 February 2025 (7/10)
Nice and clean room. You got access to washing and drying machines for free. Has everything you need for comfortable living for affordable price.
What could be improved: Lack of ventilation, you can smell the fungus in the room.Kiran from India – 16 July 2024 (8/10)
Clean bathrooms. Safe environment
What could be improved: The approach is a little tricky as it is on a narrow road. I booked a superior room but was given a room without a balcony.
The apartment is away from the old quarter. However, you can get a grab or other modes of transport to reach main places.Chính from Vietnam – 16 June 2024 (9/10)
I would say that this is the best economical homestay I’ve seen
Sean from Myanmar – 1 January 2023 (8/10)
I didn't realise that it wasn't that close to everything, that said its on me. One 35min scooter ride and you are next to everything. That's only $2 and the trip well worth the experience. I loved the streets and the non touristy local feel. So its a compromise. The old quarter more that 2x the price on everything, but close to what you want to visit. So I think this was better.
What could be improved: Some tips on how to heat the water aka how to make the shower hot. Also a sponge and multiple soap dispensers would have been a game changer as would a dish cloth. Small things, but a big difference. Lastly, how to take a Grab, the Vietnamese street names don't work like other names.Lara from Canada – 3 December 2022 (9/10)
The room was very comfortable and well equipped with nice modern decor. It was convenient to be able to use the laundry room and kitchen. The host was helpful as well.
It’s in a neat area, not at all touristy — which we liked, but it’s also far from the city centre, so something to consider for other travellers.
Overall great stay.
What could be improved: Far from city centre so we spent a while in traffic a couple of times (however on the flip side it’s nice to stay in a local neighborhood).Uyên from Vietnam – 14 October 2022 (9/10)
Nice and clean room, modern facilities, the actual room was as advertised. comfortable bed, mold-free and odorless bedsheet, the property provided with a free parking lot, AC and hot water was in good condition. The host was very supportive, he reached out to give me all the needed info. I met a lady who escort me to my room, she was so friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: – No kettle
– There’s a kitchenette inside the room but no tableware provided.
– I found a bag of trash left in a cupboard and hair on the floor, which i considered the room was not thoroughly cleaned.
– My room has no window, barely see a single thing from outside, even the sunlight.
