The lobby has that particular smell of polished wood mixed with incense that somehow works in Vietnamese hotels but would feel weird anywhere else. Check-in was surprisingly smooth, though the front desk staff’s English varies pretty dramatically depending on who’s working – the day manager speaks it perfectly, but good luck with complex requests during the night shift. The rooms are solid for a 4-star place, nothing that’ll blow you away but definitely comfortable. Actually, the beds are firmer than what most Americans expect, which I personally loved after walking around Hanoi all day. The AC works well (crucial during those humid summer months), and the bathroom has decent water pressure, though it takes a good three minutes to get hot water flowing.

What I really appreciated was how the hotel sits in this interesting spot between tourist Hanoi and actual Hanoi. You can walk to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in about fifteen minutes if you’re into that sort of thing, but you’re also genuinely in a neighborhood where people live and work. There’s a fantastic bun cha place two blocks down Lang Ha that I never would’ve found if I’d stayed in the tourist bubble – the owner’s daughter practices her English with hotel guests sometimes. The 7.8 rating feels about right; it’s not going to be the highlight of your trip, but it won’t disappoint either. I’d say it’s perfect for travelers who want a reliable base without paying Old Quarter prices, especially if you don’t mind taking a quick taxi or motorbike ride to get to the main sights. Plus, the neighborhood has this evening rhythm where families spill out onto the sidewalks around dinner time, and honestly, watching that daily ritual from the hotel’s little front terrace with a Vietnamese coffee became my favorite part of each day.

  The main attractions for this hotel are the facilities–big pool, excellent fitness center, but also large spa, night club and small casino. I got an upgraded room so the size was fine and it was adequate in every way, but just a bit bland and without any personality. The location is not interesting for tourists and walking around was not all that great due to the heavy traffic in the area.
