You know what caught me off guard about Fukurai Boutique Apartments? It’s tucked away in this tiny alley off Lieu Giai Street – I mean, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking. But that’s actually the charm of the place. While everyone’s staying in the chaos of the Old Quarter, you’re in Ba Dinh where the streets are wider and you can actually breathe.

The apartments themselves feel more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, honestly. They’ve got this modern minimalist thing going on, but not in that sterile way that makes you afraid to touch anything. The kitchenettes are surprisingly well-equipped – I actually cooked breakfast a couple times instead of heading out, which saved me from the morning tourist rush at nearby cafes. The beds are firm (Vietnamese style, you’ll get used to it), and the AC works like a dream, which matters more than you think when Hanoi’s humidity hits. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing – being in that little alley means you’re not dealing with the constant honking that drives you crazy in other parts of the city.

Location-wise, this is where it gets interesting. You’re a fifteen-minute walk to Hoan Kiem Lake, but more importantly, you’re right in the government district where actual Hanoians live and work. There’s this incredible pho place about three blocks away that doesn’t have any English signage – just follow the locals queuing up around 7 AM. The staff at Fukurai actually gave me directions to it, which tells you they know their neighborhood. Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is practically around the corner if you’re into that sort of thing, and the Temple of Literature is close enough to walk to without melting in the heat. I also loved that there’s a proper Vietnamese coffee shop downstairs from the building – not touristy at all, just old guys reading newspapers and playing cards.

The service is what you’d expect from a 4-star place, though sometimes the English gets a bit choppy during complex conversations. Check-in was smooth, they held my luggage when I arrived early, and housekeeping was thorough without being intrusive. The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s solid, comfortable, and well-located, but it’s not going to blow your mind. I think the rating suffers a bit because some people expect hotel-style amenities, but this is apartment-style living. You’re doing your own thing more, which I personally loved but might not be everyone’s cup of tea. The Wi-Fi is fast enough for video calls, there’s a decent workspace if you need to get things done, and the shower pressure is surprisingly good for Vietnam. Would I stay here again? Absolutely – especially if I wanted to experience Hanoi like less of a tourist and more like someone who actually lives there.

  I really liked the rooms, they were incredibly clean and neat. The personnel was lovely. Little cafe downstairs make the best vienamese coffee and tea, very cosy and perfect for starting the day or working with a laptop. Fast and free wifi, perfect for staying on business trip.

  What could be improved: They messed up with the reservation (the first night they assigned me a lower level room, then washing machine not working, then they wanted 2 nights to be paid, then 5, although I staied 3. Everything was solved at the end but it took quite some time and I was in a hurry. The apartments are very nice, and good price. No elevator.

  This was the booking of the first night only. I ended up staying for 4 nights due to work.
  The room was upgraded, hence, it was well equipped with a proper kitchen sink and a large fridge. A spacious room with sofa and washing machine, which was used once throughout the stay (Thoughtful service with detergent provided. Should have a cap to cover the lingering smell of the detergent to the room though).
  This is a large alley where car can drive in, which is a big plus for a drop off at the doorstep since it was raining most of the days during my stay. A partnered cafe is located at the ground floor, with pastry and good variety of coffee, which is so convenient for business catch ups. They offered only one-time 10% for in-house guest though (daily offer would be highly appreciated). And a 24/7 Circle K next door, and at the entrance of the apartment is a HUGE plus of convenience.
  
  What could be improved: Privacy: Glass window at the kitchen area is opposite the exit sign and the camera. It is always too bright at night due to the exit sign, hallway light (I switched it off afterward), and I checked with the staff since I can see the cam from the wardrobe. The staff assured me that the cam angle faces the stairs, not the room, but I could no longer have peace of mind seeing that cam for 5 days. Could add a shade to cover that glass window though.
  Hygiene: My original room was a wrong room (booked double and got twin bed) and stink of indoor smoking smell. I immediately requested to switch room, and got upgraded to the best room category due to my extended long stay. I had another acquaintance checked in 2 days and he shared the same experience with the smoking incidence, and had to ask for another room as well. They need to do something about this issue, since this property is so new!
  Facility: No elevator and this caught me by surprise, since their first branch has once (I stayed there before). The staff helped you to carry the luggage up quickly, but it is still less accessible for everyone though.

  Excellent stay! Very kind staff. Room spacious and bright if you choose one one the front. Great cafe on main floor. Many good department stores/ shops nearby.
