Babylon Grand Hotel & Spa Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Babylon Grand on Pham Hong Thai Street – you know how some hotel names sound way grander than the actual place. But this one actually lives up to it, at least mostly. The building has this sort of contemporary Vietnamese style that doesn’t try too hard to be flashy, which I appreciated after seeing so many over-the-top places in Hanoi’s tourist areas.
What really sold me on this place was the location, and I mean the real location benefits, not just “close to everything” nonsense. You’re in Ba Dinh, which honestly feels more authentic than staying right in the Old Quarter where you’re dodging tour groups every five minutes. The Presidential Palace is literally a ten-minute walk – I stumbled across it during my morning coffee run and ended up spending two hours there. Plus, you’ve got actual Vietnamese life happening around you on these streets. There’s this little pho place about three blocks down that I’m pretty sure no guidebook has discovered yet, and the woman who runs it started recognizing me by day three. The hotel itself runs pretty smoothly – check-in was quick, the staff actually speaks decent English (not always a given), and the spa part isn’t just a marketing gimmick. I tried the massage after a particularly brutal day of walking around Hoan Kiem Lake in 90-degree heat, and it was exactly what I needed. The rooms are clean and well-maintained, though the WiFi can get spotty during evening hours when everyone’s streaming or video calling home.
Here’s the thing though – this isn’t a luxury resort experience, and that’s actually fine. It’s a solid four-star that knows what it is. The breakfast spread is decent with both Western and Vietnamese options (the pho at breakfast took some getting used to, but now I’m converted), and there’s usually hot water, which believe me, isn’t something to take for granted in this price range. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 9 PM, so if you’re looking to party every night, you’ll need to head toward the Old Quarter. But if you want a good night’s sleep and easy access to some of Hanoi’s better cultural sites without the chaos, this spot works really well. The 8.3 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect, but it delivers on what matters most when you’re actually traveling and not just posting Instagram shots.

What could be improved: Breakfast should offer more variety choicesDavid from United Kingdom – 14 March 2024 (9/10)
Reception staff and management were excellent and extremely helpful.
What could be improved: Due to the fact that a lot of guests were on tours and were only there for one night it could be very noisy early in the morning. Also if a large number were leaving at that time, breakfast was extremely busy.Tek from Australia – 24 November 2023 (7/10)
Clean and spacious room. Buffet breakfast was amazing.
What could be improved: The location is challenging.Chloe from United Kingdom – 29 October 2023 (8/10)
The staff were very friendly and helpful when we arrived. The beds were comfortable and the hotel is in a quieter part of town but still accessible to the old town. This was great for us having stayed right in the centre before where it was more noisy.
What could be improved: Breakfast was limited and inconsistent.Chanchai from Thailand – 17 August 2023 (9/10)
