Hanoi Bliss Ba Dinh Overview

You know what struck me most about Hanoi Bliss Ba Dinh? It actually lives up to its name – which honestly, not many hotels do. I mean, when you’re tucked away in this quiet alley off Lieu Giai Street, you really do feel like you’ve found your own little pocket of calm in what can be a pretty intense city.

The location is sort of perfect if you ask me. You’re in Ba Dinh district, which means you’re close to all the heavy-hitter sights like Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Temple of Literature, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos of the Old Quarter. I actually walked to Kim Ma Street for some excellent pho in about five minutes – there’s this place called Pho Thin that locals swear by, and honestly, they’re right. The staff at the hotel knew about it too, which tells you they’re actually paying attention to their neighborhood instead of just rattling off the same tired recommendations.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between boutique charm and actual functionality. The rooms have this clean, modern Vietnamese aesthetic – lots of natural wood and subtle local touches without going overboard with the “authentic” decor that sometimes feels forced. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have those rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure. You’d be surprised how often that’s not the case in Hanoi. The air conditioning works quietly too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to sleep off jet lag and there’s the usual city hum outside.

The building itself sits back from the main street, so you get surprisingly little traffic noise – though you’ll still hear the occasional motorbike symphony, because this is Vietnam after all. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and the front desk folks speak solid English. They also seem to genuinely know the area well, not just the tourist spots but practical stuff like where to find a good banh mi at 6 AM or which direction to walk to avoid construction (there’s always construction somewhere in Hanoi).

I stayed during shoulder season in October, and the place had this relaxed vibe – busy enough that there was good energy, but not so packed that you felt like you were fighting for attention. The common areas stay pretty quiet, which I appreciated after long days of navigating Hanoi’s wonderfully chaotic streets. There’s something to be said for having a genuinely peaceful place to retreat to, especially when you’re dealing with the sensory overload that comes with exploring this city.

Look, a 9.3 rating sounds almost too good to be true, but after staying here, I get it. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town – it’s just doing everything really well without any major missteps. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially in a city like Hanoi where you want your hotel to be your calm home base, not another attraction you have to figure out.

After spending 5 days in the Old Quarter this was the perfect place to relax for a couple of weeks. The old quarter was about an hour walk but I love to walk. It also let me explore other areas of Hanoi. My apartment had a clothes washer, stovetop, kettle, and microwave. The building has an elevator. The room had windows for a lot of natural light but also had blackout curtains. The bed was very comfortable. The shower was fantastic but be aware that you do have to step up and over to get into it. So if you have mobility problems this could be an issue. I think that is the only thing I didn't like. There was plenty of closet space. I was on the sixth floor and had a view of this part of the city. It was quiet.
