I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Nguyễn Văn Tố street looking for this place. The narrow lane in Cửa Đông ward doesn’t exactly scream “boutique hotel,” but that’s actually what makes Hanoi Lion so special. It’s tucked away from the main tourist chaos of the Old Quarter, but you’re still close enough to walk to Hoàn Kiếm Lake in about eight minutes (I timed it). The building itself has this really nice blend of French colonial touches and modern Vietnamese design – you know, the kind of place that feels authentically Hanoi without trying too hard.

What really got me was the attention to detail once you’re inside. The lobby smells like lemongrass and jasmine (not in an overwhelming way), and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day. The spa is where they really shine though – I mean, it’s not huge, but the Vietnamese massage therapist there, Ms. Linh, has these magic hands that somehow knew exactly where I was carrying all my travel stress. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, but with these lovely touches like locally-made ceramics and silk throw pillows. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for Vietnam, and honestly, the water pressure is better than most places I’ve stayed in Southeast Asia. One small thing – the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs. It’s not terrible, but you might catch some hallway conversations.

Here’s what I really love about the location: you’re in this quiet residential pocket where actual Hanoians live and work, but step out the front door and turn left, and within five minutes you’re at the weekend night market on Đồng Xuân street. The hotel sits right between the lake and the really touristy parts of the Old Quarter, so you get the best of both worlds. They don’t have their own parking (street parking only), but the motorbike taxi drivers in the area know the hotel well, which makes getting around super easy. The breakfast spread is quite good – proper Vietnamese pho alongside Western options, fresh tropical fruit, and really excellent Vietnamese coffee. I actually found myself looking forward to breakfast each morning, which doesn’t always happen. The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but it’s the kind of place that just gets everything right without making a big deal about it.

  It was our first family trip in 10 years, and Hanoi has changed a lot. The only thing that remains the same is the friendliness and hospitality of its people. This hotel was by far the best one we stayed at during our entire vacation.
  
  We are a family of three and originally booked a room with an internal window for a cozy and quiet environment. From the moment we checked in, the staff were professional and friendly. They even upgraded us to the Family Suite Terrace, which came with two queen-sized beds. It was spacious yet still cozy, and completely quiet at night.
  
  The location is ideal—you can reach almost every place within 10 minutes. Plus, there are plenty of options available at the concierge desk if you haven’t fully planned your trip. The price was also very reasonable and accessible.
  
  The highlight of our stay was definitely the incredible staff: Rose, Billy, Austin, Ann, Katherine, and their manager, Mrs. Kim. They were always willing to help and went the extra mile to make us feel as comfortable as if we were at home.
  
  It was a true pleasure for our family to be accompanied by such amazing people. Keep up the great work, everyone!

  We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel! The location is perfect for exploring the old part of the city, and the service was outstanding. The staff were exceptionally polite and friendly, making us feel very welcome throughout our stay. The food was also excellent, and to top it all off, we even received a thoughtful souvenir from the hotel. We highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!
