Heritage house in the Hanoi Old quarter Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Hàng Giấy street looking for this place – honestly, the Old Quarter can be hit or miss with accommodations. But Heritage House actually surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself has this gorgeous colonial architecture that you see scattered throughout the quarter, but what got me was how they’ve managed to preserve that authentic Vietnamese charm without making it feel like you’re staying in a museum.

The location is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re right in the thick of things on Hàng Giấy, which means you can walk to Hoan Kiem Lake in maybe five minutes (perfect for those early morning walks when the locals are doing tai chi), but you’re just tucked away enough that you don’t get the constant motorbike chaos that some of the main drag hotels deal with. I mean, don’t get me wrong – this is still Hanoi’s Old Quarter, so there’s going to be street noise, but it dies down around 10 PM most nights. The staff here really knows their stuff too. When I mentioned wanting to find good bun cha (not the touristy spots), the front desk guy – I think his name was Minh – actually drew me a little map to this tiny place about three blocks away that locals go to. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you just don’t get at the bigger chain hotels.

What really sets this place apart though is the attention to detail. The rooms have these beautiful hardwood floors and traditional Vietnamese textiles, but they’ve also got proper air conditioning that actually works (crucial during Hanoi’s sweltering summers) and surprisingly good WiFi. The bathrooms are modern without being sterile, and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve slept in throughout Southeast Asia. There’s this lovely little courtyard area where you can have your morning coffee – Vietnamese style, obviously – and just watch the neighborhood wake up. Around 6 AM, you’ll see the street vendors setting up their stalls, and by 7, the whole area comes alive with that incredible energy the Old Quarter is famous for. I spent quite a few mornings just sitting there with my cà phê sữa đá, planning out my day or recovering from the previous night’s adventures in the night market. The Heritage House isn’t trying to be something it’s not, which I really appreciate. It’s not pretending to be a luxury resort, but it’s also not cutting corners where it matters. If you want to experience authentic Hanoi while still having a genuinely comfortable place to retreat to at the end of the day, this is your spot.

The room was very cosy and aesthetic. The design and the decor was impeccable. The huge bathroom which had a jacuzzi was the icing on the cake. Our host, Minh, was super helpful in every regard. We really enjoyed our stay. Definitely coming back again.

Hidden gem amongst the chaos of Hanoi.
Amazing experience! From the staff to my spacious room everything was great. They amenities provided (toothbrush, whatever you need- they most likely have available) even had the mini fridge. Helped coordinate an airport shuttle and was gracious enough to get me in my room a little earlier than expected. Perfect location in the middle of city where everything’s going on, great for walking around only took 5 minutes to get to the lake. Surprisingly enough, even in the heart of the city it was not noisy at all. 10/10 recommend.
