Hilton Garden Inn Hanoi Overview

You know what caught me off guard about the Hilton Garden Inn in Hanoi? It’s actually tucked right into the Old Quarter chaos on Phan Chu Trinh Street, but once you step inside, it’s like someone hit the pause button on all that beautiful madness outside. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake – and I’m talking about the real walking time, not that inflated “five minutes from everything” nonsense most hotels claim.

The thing is, this isn’t your typical sterile business hotel. The lobby has this warm, contemporary vibe that somehow works with the French colonial architecture you see everywhere in this part of Hanoi. The staff actually seems to know what they’re doing too – check-in was smooth even when I arrived during that crazy afternoon rush when half the tour groups in Southeast Asia seemed to be converging on the Old Quarter. What I really appreciated was the room setup. The beds are properly comfortable (honestly, after bouncing around Vietnam for two weeks, this mattered more than I expected), and there’s enough space to actually unpack without playing furniture Tetris. The bathrooms are spotless, which – let’s be real – isn’t always a given even at four-star places around here. Plus, the air conditioning works like it means business, which you’ll definitely need during those sticky Hanoi summers.

Here’s what makes this place work though: the location is absolutely perfect for exploring, but it’s on just enough of a side street that you’re not dealing with constant motorbike honking at 6 AM. You can walk to Dong Xuan Market in about eight minutes, hit up those incredible street food stalls on Hang Ma Street, or just wander toward the lake when you need a breather from the organized chaos. The hotel restaurant is decent – nothing revolutionary, but they do a solid breakfast spread and the pho is actually respectable (coming from someone who ate way too much pho during this trip). Room service was quick the couple times I used it, and they stock local beer in the minibar alongside the usual overpriced international stuff. The fitness center is small but functional, and there’s a business center if you need to print boarding passes or deal with travel logistics. What really sealed it for me was the rooftop area – not exactly a fancy bar, but you can grab a drink and actually see some of the Old Quarter rooftops and get glimpses of the lake. It’s one of those spots where you end up staying longer than planned, watching the controlled chaos of evening traffic while sipping a Bia Hoi. At an 8.4 rating, it’s hitting that sweet spot of reliable comfort without the stuffiness of the big luxury hotels, and honestly, the price point makes way more sense when you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring rather than hanging around the hotel anyway.

Reviews of Hilton Garden Inn Hanoi

  • Lindsay from Australia – 29 April 2025 (7/10)

    ok

  • Uswatte from Australia – 22 April 2025 (8/10)

Located slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the old quarter. Only a 15 min walk to old quarter main attractions. Great location and staff.

What could be improved: Slightly dated but we didn’t really care.

  • Cindy from Singapore – 2 April 2025 (8/10)

Although the rooms were older, I really appreciated that all the basic amenities were taken care of (like the bathrooms, beds, table space and hot water) and that there were ample hangers and lots of space to hang out clothes and put our things comfortably. The rooms were also really clean and the hot water was working just fine—we could shower and enjoy soaking in the bathtub without the water running cold halfway through washing our hair, like in the hotel we were at just before.

The hotel itself was very nicely located in a more peaceful part of Hanoi and next to a few nice restaurants, including local food, but not too far at all from the Old Quarter where most of the attractions are. The famous jazz bar is also just about 11 minutes’ walk from the hotel.

We really appreciated the professionalism of all the staff. No one made disrespectful personal comments unlike in our previous location. Staff were clearly properly trained as employees who understood that they were working in a hotel and the people they were providing customer service to were guests. We have discovered that this is something we cannot take for granted, although it seems so basic.

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing!

this was my third stay at Hilton Garden. Ut is comforting to walk out if your hotel and not struggle with scooters parked everywhere. The hotel is a short walk to Old Quarter. convenience store across the road and good eateries not far away

What could be improved: no complaints, all was good

Great location near (short walk) Philippine embassy

  • Yoshinobu from Philippines – 7 April 2023 (9/10)

    Helpful staff

What could be improved: Small gym

  • Eve from United Kingdom – 2 November 2022 (8/10)

Quiet location in the Old Quarter, spacious rooms and a good restaurant offering tasty food.

What could be improved: Although we left our towels hanged every other day to reduce their washing and support Hilton’s green scheme, they were changed daily.

  • Amos from Singapore – 29 June 2022 (8/10)

The eggs and pho were freshly prepared at the booth. There were also fruits and pastries. Serves coffee and tea as well.

What could be improved: Nothing to complain about. It'd be great if they can provide the 2 water bottles in bigger sizes especially during the warm and humid days.
