Homestay Times city Overview
You know what struck me first about Homestay Times City? It’s actually tucked into this surprisingly quiet stretch of Minh Khai Street – and I mean that’s saying something in Hanoi, where quiet streets are basically mythical creatures. The location is honestly pretty clever because you’re right in Hai Ba Trung district, which locals will tell you is where the city feels more lived-in and less touristy, but you can still grab a taxi to the Old Quarter in about fifteen minutes (twenty if traffic’s being typical Hanoi traffic).
The place itself has this sort of boutique hotel vibe trying to be homey – hence the “homestay” name, though it’s definitely more polished than your average family-run guesthouse. I actually appreciated that they didn’t go overboard with the whole “authentic Vietnamese experience” thing that some places push too hard. The rooms are clean and well-maintained, with decent air conditioning that’ll save your life during those sweltering summer months, and honestly, the beds are more comfortable than I expected for a 4-star place. What really sold me was the staff – they actually seem to know the neighborhood and can point you toward the good pho spot two blocks down (not the one that’s obviously for tourists) and the late-night bánh mì cart that parks near the corner around 9 PM.
Here’s the thing about this area though – it’s not Instagram-pretty like some parts of Hanoi, but that’s exactly why it works. You’ll hear actual neighborhood life happening outside your window: motorbikes puttering by in the morning, the coffee vendor setting up shop, kids heading to school. It’s not disruptively loud, more like the city’s natural soundtrack. The hotel sits close enough to Vincom Center Times City that you can walk there for shopping or a Western meal if you need a break from street food, but far enough that you’re not dealing with mall crowds constantly. I mean, the whole setup just feels practical – which sounds boring but is actually refreshing when you’re trying to figure out a new city. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me because it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi, but it genuinely delivers on being a solid base for exploring without breaking your budget or overwhelming you with unnecessary luxury. Plus, check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no lengthy presentations about amenities I’d never use anyway.

Had everything as listed, not as new as in the pictures but comfort was granted. I made a very last minute booking and they went the extra mile to make it ready for me so that in half an hour I could check in half an hour.
Swimming pool is very nice but it requires the payment of a fee and opening hours are quite strict.
It’s not very centric but not so far from downtown and you can get everything you need just in walking distanceYashbelo from United Kingdom – 10 November 2024 (1/10)
Nothing.
What could be improved: Our valuables were stolen and the host offered free stay. However, our valuables cost much more. The appartment was not the one shown in the picture. It was disgusting and had coackroaches. The maid came in the property without our authorisation and the owner said sorry and promised that it wouldn't happen again. Luckily I didn't trust her and spent the full day in the property the following day and the maid tried to come in twice whilst I was inside. The owner just kept on lying and stating reasons such as the maid is crazy and got the wrong appartment. They just wanted to steal more of our valuables. My holiday experience was ruined because of this property. If I had more time I would have communicated with the police.Quynh from Vietnam – 10 July 2024 (9/10)
