Hotel De Rond Overview

So here’s the thing about Hotel De Rond – it’s tucked away on this narrow street called Phố Tông Đản that most tourists completely miss, which is honestly part of its charm. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but you feel like you’ve discovered some hidden corner of the Old Quarter that hasn’t been completely overrun yet. The building itself has this sort of understated elegance – not trying too hard to be boutique-y, if you know what I mean, but clearly someone put thought into the details.

What really got me was how the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out. The front desk guy (I think his name was Minh?) didn’t just point me toward the usual tourist traps – he told me about this incredible pho place two blocks over that opens at 6 AM and closes when they run out of broth, usually around 10. And when I mentioned wanting to avoid the crazy motorbike traffic on the main drags, he sketched out these little side routes that locals use. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – clean, comfortable beds, decent shower pressure (which, let’s be honest, can be hit or miss in Hanoi’s Old Quarter). Nothing revolutionary, but everything works, and there’s this nice touch where they leave you actual Vietnamese coffee and a traditional filter in the room, not just instant packets.

Here’s what I didn’t expect: the soundproofing is actually pretty good. Phố Tông Đản isn’t one of the major thoroughfares, so you’re not dealing with constant honking, but even so, I could barely hear the street noise once I closed the windows. The WiFi held up fine for video calls back home, and they’ve got this small business center tucked off the lobby if you need to print boarding passes or whatever. Honestly, the whole place just feels… reliable? Like, you’re not going to have any nasty surprises, but you’re also not paying resort prices for the privilege. I stayed there during Tet season when half the city shuts down, and they somehow managed to keep their restaurant open with a limited menu – nothing fancy, but decent spring rolls and some solid rice dishes when everything else in the neighborhood was closed. The location really is the winner though – you can walk to the night market in about eight minutes, the lake is right there for morning jogs, and if you want to venture into the French Quarter for dinner, it’s an easy fifteen-minute stroll. Would I stay there again? Yeah, definitely. It’s one of those places that just gets the basics right without making a big fuss about it.

Location is amazing- Prices are very good / Quality was way above what I was expecting for this price

    What could be improved: N/A

  • Catriona from New Zealand – 8 March 2025 (9/10)

Great little hotel, with simple but tasty breakfast and very comfy beds. The staff were so lovely and helpful, particularly Ms Chip

What could be improved: One minor thing is that the fire alarm flashes light regularly at night which is a little annoying. Good to know it’s working but if you were a super light sensitive sleeper it could be an issue. Note that the spa services are not on site (but they will arrange free transport)

  • Sophie from Belgium – 7 March 2025 (9/10)

The insonorisation of the room was perfect as we were in a relatively animated street. The bathroom was okay and very clean. It’s good compromise if you want to walk to the old quarter but not want to sleep directly into the ole quarter.

  • Julie from United Kingdom – 3 February 2025 (9/10)

The staff were so helpful and welcoming. The hotel was in a great location and the toom was clean and comfortable.

  • Nenad from Serbia – 29 January 2025 (9/10)

Very good location, close to the Old Quarter, a few minutes walk, but still far away enough to be calm and quite. Hotel is nice, clean and well kept. Staff was helpful to arrange me massage and a driver to massage place. Would come back for sure.

  • Hannah from United States – 20 January 2025 (9/10)

The staff was very friendly and helpful during our stay. The room and bathroom were spacious, clean, and comfortable. Great location as well – it was within walking distance to the Old Quarter without being too close.

  • Carla from Brazil – 12 January 2025 (9/10)

  • Steve from United Kingdom – 7 January 2025 (9/10)
