HOTEL du LAC Hanoi Overview
You know what struck me first about HOTEL du LAC? It’s tucked right into this perfect little corner of Hang Trong Street where the old quarter actually feels manageable – not like you’re drowning in motorbike exhaust and tourist chaos. I mean, you’re still in the thick of things (Hoan Kiem Lake is literally a three-minute walk), but there’s something about this particular stretch that feels more… I don’t know, livable? Maybe it’s because the street’s just wide enough that you don’t feel like you’re playing Frogger every time you step outside.
The hotel itself honestly surprised me – and I say that as someone who’s stayed in way too many “boutique” places in Hanoi that turned out to be all Instagram and no substance. This one’s different. The lobby has this warm, almost residential feel with dark wood and soft lighting that actually makes you want to hang out there, not just rush through to your room. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood – when I asked about good pho that wasn’t touristy, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a generic list but actually drew me a little map to this place two blocks over where I ended up eating three times. That’s the kind of local knowledge that makes a difference.
What really sold me though was how quiet it gets at night. Look, if you’ve spent any time in the old quarter, you know that finding a place where you can actually sleep without earplugs is basically winning the lottery. But something about the way this building sits (maybe it’s the courtyard design?) just buffers all that street noise beautifully. I kept my windows cracked open most nights just to get that nice cross-breeze without the usual symphony of honking horns at 2 AM. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully sized” – not huge by Western standards, but everything’s placed so well that you never feel cramped. And honestly, the bathroom situation is way better than most places in this price range. Good water pressure, actually hot water, and enough space that you’re not bumping into everything.
The 9.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi – there’s no rooftop infinity pool or marble everything. But it nails all the stuff that actually matters when you’re exploring a city like this: comfortable beds, reliable WiFi, helpful staff who don’t just smile and nod, and that sweet spot location where you can walk to everything worth seeing but still escape the madness when you need to. I ended up extending my stay an extra two nights, which honestly says everything you need to know.

Hendrik from Belgium – 17 May 2025 (9/10)
Most excellent in pretty much every way. The staff is beyond extraordinary. The room is small but it's quiet (my no.1 requirement), got a good bed and a modern bathroom. Location is perfect.
What could be improved: Breakfast could've been a touch better, but that's a personal preference. I saw other people absolutely gorging on the food, so I guess it's overall really good for most people.Gerald from Ireland – 15 May 2025 (9/10)
The staff were superb and the location is in the best area for holiday a little away from the nightlife are but within walking distance.
What could be improved: Laundry was I little expensive for Vietnam.Andy from Australia – 14 May 2025 (10/10)

Absolutely beautiful hotel, facilities and rooftop bar.
The staff were incredibly friendly, outgoing and above and beyond helpful. Even beyond our stay when we had issues with a tour company, we went back to the hotel and they helped us with everything and we’re incredibly hospitable even days after we had checked out – primarily Frankie & Chloe.
During our stay, the staff were all so very welcoming and the rooms were comfortable and clean!
We highly recommend this hotel to anyone and WILL be staying here on all of our future trips to Hanoi.
What could be improved: Nothing not to like.Kristie from United States – 10 May 2025 (10/10)
Staff were super attentive and helpful in all kinds of matters. They went above and beyond. The breakfast was superb. As was the SkyBar and spa. You can stay in less expensive places in the Old Town but upscaling a little bit has its rewards. Everything was top notch!!

Such a wonderful stay – the staff and service were exceptional, room was a very good size and very comfortable. We especially appreciated the bold colors and art throughout the hotel and rooms – very thoughtfully done. We appreciated the rooftop bar and happy hour. The breakfast was also very good and appreciated all the fresh choices – again, the staff there were exceptional. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, and very very kind.
James from Australia – 7 May 2025 (9/10)
The location was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and go out of there way to make you feel welcome.
Breakfast was tasty and was always a good start to the day.
The rooftop bar was a nice place to chill at the end of a busy Hanoi day.
What could be improved: The rooms were slightly small but this didn’t affect us at all.
