Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to HTC Home Kham Thien, I wasn’t expecting much from the narrow storefront squeezed between the typical Hanoi mix of pho joints and motorbike repair shops. But you know what? Sometimes the best places hide in plain sight on these busy Old Quarter side streets. The lobby’s actually pretty slick once you get inside, and the staff remembered my name by day two (which, let’s face it, doesn’t happen at those massive chain hotels downtown).

What really won me over was the location – and I mean the actual practical stuff, not just “convenient to everything” nonsense. You’re right on Kham Thien, which honestly feels more like real Hanoi than the tourist circus around Hoan Kiem Lake. There’s this incredible banh mi lady literally 30 seconds from the front door who starts setting up around 6 AM, and the coffee shop across the street makes ca phe sua da that’ll ruin you for Starbucks forever. The motorbike traffic gets pretty intense during rush hour – I mean, it’s Hanoi, so that’s a given – but the rooms are surprisingly well-insulated. I was on the fourth floor and could barely hear the street chaos, though you’ll definitely want to request a back-facing room if you’re a light sleeper.

The rooms themselves hit that sweet spot between boutique hotel charm and actually having enough space to open your suitcase without doing yoga poses around the furniture. The air conditioning works like a dream (crucial in Vietnamese summers, trust me), and they’ve got this rainfall shower setup that actually has decent water pressure. I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Dong Da district where the water barely trickles out, so this was a pleasant surprise. The WiFi’s solid too – worked perfectly for video calls back home, even during peak evening hours when half of Hanoi’s online. What I really appreciated was how the cleaning staff paid attention to details… they’d fold my scattered clothes and always left the bathroom spotless without being asked. The breakfast spread won’t knock your socks off, but there’s fresh pho every morning alongside the usual Western stuff, and honestly, starting your day with a proper bowl of pho beats hotel continental breakfast any day. The rooftop area’s pretty nice for evening drinks too, though it gets packed during sunset hours. Overall, it’s one of those places that just gets the basics right while throwing in enough local character to remind you why you came to Vietnam in the first place.

  Comfortable bed, clean property, amenities in the shower (shampoo and shower gel), place to park motorbike, responsive host, value for money, nice neighbourhood. It was a spacious, bright room.
  
  What could be improved: Room was not prepared initially on arrival, although this was resolved quickly and it was a national holiday. TV and air con remotes both didn’t work – asked for some new batteries for the air con which were provided but turned out to be the incorrect ones. Air con could be adjusted from the unit but this was obviously a pain. Unable to use the TV at all. Smell from the drains – had to keep bathroom door shut. Dirty balcony.

  What could be improved: All selfservice no staff, just a telefoon number you can contact (depending on the person this could be good or bad)
  
  When I arrived (room 401) a broken tv was on, the bed was not made, items were on the bed there was trash on the ground, a cigarette and a half bottle of water on the table, bathroom and especially one the kitchen were extremely dirty and there was mold in the doors.
  
  I complained and got another room (201). This room was much cleaner, although the bedsheets had dirty crusty stains on them.
  
  I complained again and told them I maybe will look for another place to stay and if so i will let know.. i eventually decided to stay because I booked it for just one night. However around 23:30 y my door… apparently they the same room twice. Thetext message from the staff was also quite rude “why are you still in the room???”… well, I booked it first! 🤷‍♂️

  Spacious room. The view was nice. Relatively cheap I guess. The TV and air-conditioning worked. Owner was sometimes responsive. Self check-in kind of felt like an escape room but I liked it. There were pretty birds in cages in the hallway and a random water feature.
  
  What could be improved: The first room they put me in the bed was filthy with someone else's hair and dirt. There was a huge cockroach on the floor as the balcony door had been left open from whoever was in the room last so it didn't feel safe at all.
  
  I told the owner about the bed and he moved me to a different room. The next room's bed was fine but the bathroom was awful. The sink's plug was stuck & didn't drain so there was other people's dirty water still in there. I told the owner and he sent instructions on how to use the plug but when I said it was broken he didn't respond. I had to use the shower head as a tap. The bathroom smelt weird in general. The thing that holds that shower head up was broken. There was no hot water at all so all my showers were really cold.
  
  Because the passwords to the doors were easily guessed, I also didn't feel super safe there.

  Self check in property, great value for money. Big Appartment. Best deal on accommodation that we had in Hanoi.
  
  What could be improved: There was construction going on from 6:30 in the morning and it was impossible to sleep.

  Das Appartment war sehr gut und die lage in der Stadt auch. Da ich in der nähe schön mal ein Appartment hatte kannte ich die Lage. Ein gemütliches Appartment mit dem konfor den man sich wünscht. Leider habe ich den Gastgeber nicht persönlich getroffen. Es wurde alles über what's app abgewickelt. Da sage ich nur großes vertrauen an die Gäste.
  
  What could be improved: Klar zur zeit sind neben den Haus bauarbeiten und es wird ein neues Haus hochgezogen, aber die Bauarbeiter versuchten den Lärm gering wie möglich zu halten.

  A stúdió tágas, kényelmes, nincs kellemetlen szag, mint más apartmanokban. Az széles ablak egy kevésbé elegáns udvarra néz, ami előny, mert a lakás csendes…
  
  What could be improved: …egészen reggel 7-ig, amikor a falszomszédban épülő emeletes házat építő munkások ütvefúrózni és kalapálni nem kezdenek. Aki korán indul túrázni, azt ez nem fogja zavarni.

  The location is perfect—everything is easily accessible. There's a bus stop right in front of the building, as well as restaurants and a supermarket. Many sights are within walking distance. The room was spacious and comfortable, providing plenty of space. Check-in was hassle-free, and there was always someone available via WhatsApp for any questions.
