JAYU Overview

You know what struck me first about JAYU? It’s tucked away in this narrow alley off Lê Hồng Phong Street that I honestly walked past twice before finding it. But that’s actually perfect – you’re right in Ba Dinh district where the locals hang out, not stuck in some touristy bubble. I mean, you can walk to Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum in about ten minutes, but more importantly, there’s this incredible bún chả place literally around the corner that the hotel staff will definitely point you toward if you ask.

The building itself has this sort of minimalist thing going on – clean lines, lots of natural wood, none of that over-the-top lobby marble you see everywhere. What really got me was how quiet it is once you’re inside, even though you’re basically in the middle of everything. The rooms are honestly bigger than I expected for Hanoi, and they’ve got these huge windows that actually open (rare find in newer hotels). The beds are proper firm – Vietnamese hotels sometimes go too soft for Western backs, but they nailed it here. Also, and this might sound weird, but the shower pressure is fantastic. After a day of walking around Hanoi’s humidity, that matters more than you’d think.

Here’s the thing about the location that took me a while to appreciate – you’re walking distance from the Temple of Literature and Hoan Kiem Lake, but you’re not dealing with the motorbike chaos of the Old Quarter. The alley stays pretty quiet even during rush hour, though you’ll still hear the occasional horn symphony (it’s Hanoi, after all). The front desk folks actually know the neighborhood, not just the tourist spots. They pointed me toward this weekend market that happens on Saturdays about three blocks away – completely local scene, amazing street food, and I never would’ve found it otherwise. Check-in was smooth, no weird deposit demands or passport-holding nonsense some places pull. They’ve got a decent breakfast spread too, though honestly I kept sneaking out to try different phở joints each morning. The coffee they serve is legit Vietnamese coffee, not some watered-down hotel version. One small thing – the elevator’s a bit slow, but we’re talking four floors max, so it’s not a real issue. That 9.7 rating makes total sense when you’re actually staying there. It’s one of those places where everything just works without being flashy about it.

The place feels super comfortable. We love every single moment we stay in Hanoi. Best location, super clean room

  • Li from Singapore – 24 March 2025 (10/10)

This apartment is a gem! Comes with a fully equipped kitchen and living space – separated from the bedroom.
Has a big bathtub and great shower! We stayed for 6 nights, and it was so comfortable we were looking forward to heading back every night! This stay made our trip so enjoyable in Hanoi that we are already planning for our next trip! The staff were prompt in replying our messages, the Vietnamese housekeeper ladies were adorable and helpful as well! Absolutely fantastic!

What could be improved: Too comfortable we didn’t want to head out!

  • Coombes from Cyprus – 20 January 2025 (10/10)

Well designed, extreme attention to detail to make the stay more comfortable. Apartment feel, but supported and kept like a hotel room with house keeping, fresh towels, pristine linens.

The room amenities make it a special stay, complete silence as soon as the door closes in the room, the steam shower makes you feel so clean, the staff were an excellent help throughout and we were really sad to leave

What could be improved: No down sides

  • Tony from France – 25 December 2024 (10/10)

The studio was modern, spacious, and impeccably clean. The staff (Nam) he was incredibly helpful throughout my stay, making sure everything went smoothly, even the other staff While the property is not located in the Old Quarter, it is still in a very convenient and well-connected area. I would definitely come back!

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Burton from Singapore – 22 October 2024 (10/10)

  • Maximilian from Germany – 21 October 2024 (10/10)

jayu is a great place to stay at. you have a washing machine, great shower and bathtub and even a steam shower.
you have a whole apartment for yourselfs basically.
it's affordable and great value especially for what it offers.
even if it's a bit outside old quarters everything in Hanoi of interest is easily reachable via a short ride and some places you can even walk.
overall if you don't NEED to stay in old quarter I 100% recommend this.

  • Jeff from United States – 5 March 2024 (10/10)

Really just excellent facilities in all categories.

What could be improved: If you'd like to eat in a restaurant this is a challenge. Lots of street food around but you'll not find a restaurant close to the apartment. Of course there are 5 coffee shops or more on the block but not a restaurant..

  • Phil from United Kingdom – 26 February 2024 (10/10)

Everything. The location, the facilities, the staff (thank you for all your help Ophelia) all in all a great place to stay!

  • Fang from Taiwan – 2 February 2024 (10/10)

Facilities in the bathroom are awesome

What could be improved: They don’t provide water every day. They only gave us two bottles on the first day .

  • Merlyna from Indonesia – 30 January 2024 (9/10)

The staff, Ophelia, was really kind and helpful with her instruction how to check.in since we late check.in. The room.was clean, neat, and has great facilities such as sauna, kitchen+eating utensil, washing machine with dryer, and bath tub. It was a great stay!

What could be improved: Building construction made a bit noisy in the morning
