Julia Apartment Overview
You know what struck me first about Julia Apartment? It’s tucked right into this buzzing stretch of Khâm Thiên Street where real Hanoi life happens – I mean, you’ve got locals grabbing their morning phở literally steps from the entrance, motorbikes weaving through at all hours, and that authentic chaos that makes you feel like you’re actually in Vietnam, not some sanitized tourist bubble. The building itself is pretty typical for this part of Dong Da district, nothing fancy from the outside, but honestly that’s part of its charm. You’re not paying for marble lobbies here – you’re paying to be in the thick of things.
The apartments themselves are surprisingly well-appointed for a 4-star spot in this neighborhood. I was expecting basic, but they’ve actually thought through the details that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. The kitchenette is functional (though I’d bring my own decent knife if I were planning to cook), there’s solid wifi throughout, and the air conditioning works properly – which, let me tell you, is not a given in older Hanoi buildings during summer months. The beds are comfortable enough, though the pillows lean a bit soft for my taste. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing – given how lively Khâm Thiên gets, especially in the evenings when the street food vendors set up, I was worried about noise, but it’s actually quite peaceful once you close the windows.
Location-wise, this is where Julia Apartment really shines, though you have to be the kind of traveler who likes being where locals live rather than in the tourist quarter. You’re about a 15-minute walk to Hoan Kiem Lake if you want the Old Quarter scene, but honestly, I found myself staying in the neighborhood more often than not. There’s this incredible bún chả place about two blocks north that doesn’t have a sign in English – just follow the plastic stools and the smell of grilled pork. The Dong Da market is close enough for fresh fruit runs, and you’ve got easy access to the broader city without dealing with the tourist markup prices. The staff’s English is decent, not perfect, but they’re genuinely helpful – the kind of people who’ll draw you a map on a napkin rather than just pointing vaguely down the street. My only real complaint is that the elevator is temperamental (though it works), so maybe don’t book this place if you’re traveling with heavy luggage and mobility concerns. But for the price point and that 8.2 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable base in authentic Hanoi that won’t break your budget.

Location is good, a little bit difficult to find. The host was lovely. We arrived late and didn’t have loo roll and only 1 towel. He came to check the next day and he brought us another towel. The bed is extremely uncomfortable. Wasn’t the most clean.
