You know what struck me first about L7 West Lake? It’s tucked away on this narrow alley off Lac Long Quan Street – I mean, you’d honestly drive right past it if you weren’t looking. But that’s actually perfect because once you’re inside, there’s this immediate sense of escape from Hanoi’s usual chaos. The Lotte branding had me expecting something pretty corporate, but the L7 side of things brings this younger, more relaxed vibe that works surprisingly well.

The location is honestly brilliant if you know Tay Ho at all. You’re close enough to the expat cafes and weekend markets that make this district special, but far enough from the main West Lake tourist strip that you won’t be dealing with tour groups at breakfast. I loved that I could walk to those little Korean BBQ spots locals actually go to, or grab coffee at one of the proper Vietnamese places instead of the touristy lakefront cafes. The taxi drivers sometimes get confused by the alley address though – I learned to just say “near the Lotte Mart” and walk from there.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to feel both upscale and liveable. The rooms are spacious by Hanoi standards (and I mean actually spacious, not just “well-designed small spaces”), with these floor-to-ceiling windows that make everything feel bright. The kitchenettes aren’t just for show either – there’s real counter space and proper appliances if you want to grab ingredients from the local markets. Honestly, the 7.9 rating feels about right; it’s solidly excellent without trying too hard to be flashy. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood and can point you toward the good pho place three blocks over, not just the expensive hotel restaurant.

The pool area becomes this little oasis in the afternoons, especially during the cooler months when you can actually enjoy being outside in Hanoi. I spent way too much time up there with a book, listening to the distant motorbike sounds that somehow felt soothing rather than annoying. Check-in was smooth – none of that overly formal ceremony you sometimes get at five-star places – and they actually remembered my name the next day, which always impresses me more than fancy marble lobbies.
