You know what caught me off guard about La Mejor Indochine? The name had me expecting something touristy, but honestly, this place gets the Old Quarter right in ways most hotels completely miss. I mean, you’re right there on Đào Duy Từ – which is actually perfect because you get that authentic Hanoi energy without the motorbike chaos that hits you on some of the main drags. The building itself sort of blends this French colonial thing with Vietnamese touches, and when you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about how spaces should feel, not just look.

The rooms are where they really show off – I’m talking about those little details that matter when you’re jet-lagged and cranky. The beds are legitimately comfortable (not that rock-hard situation you sometimes get in Southeast Asia), and the air conditioning actually works quietly, which is huge when you’re trying to sleep off a long flight. What I loved most was how they handled the bathroom situation – rainfall shower that has proper pressure, and they give you these locally-sourced toiletries that don’t smell like generic hotel soap. The staff here actually knows the neighborhood too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about finding good bún chả nearby, the guy at the front desk didn’t just point me toward some tourist trap – he gave me walking directions to this tiny place two streets over where locals actually eat.

Location-wise, you’re maybe a seven-minute walk to Hoàn Kiếm Lake, but more importantly, you’re in the thick of things without feeling overwhelmed. The morning sounds are perfect – you get that gentle hum of the city waking up rather than the full-blast street noise. I could walk to the weekend night market easily, and honestly, some of my favorite discoveries happened just wandering the little alleys right around the hotel. The breakfast situation deserves a mention too – they do this mix of Vietnamese and international stuff, but it’s not buffet chaos. More like they actually care about the coffee (proper Vietnamese coffee, not some watered-down version) and the bánh mì they make fresh. Even their fruit selection changes based on what’s actually in season, which tells you something about how they operate. The whole experience just felt… thoughtful, I guess? Like staying with someone who knows how to take care of people properly.

  The location was great, and the rooms were quiet. The staff were attentive. Breakfast buffet was lovely. Hotel has only been open for less than a month so everything is pristine.

  Very new facilities, only opened two weeks ago. Staff was great and extremely helpful. Value for money was also very good!
  The breakfast was also extraordinarily good!!
  
  What could be improved: Room was sold as “with terrace” instead had two balconies, elevator noise was quite noticeable from the room which was probably due to a small gap under the door, closing that would probably help to avoid that.

  Mr. Du (hotel manager) was incredibly professional, friendly and helpful during our stay. My boyfriend unfortunately suffered a broken collarbone before arriving to the hotel and Mr. Du, along with entire staff, went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible.
  
  Breakfast selection was impressive, but the service we received was even better. Shoutout out to Zookmo (gentleman server during breakfast). He took excellent care of us every morning during our stay. He fixed my boyfriend a plate as he was injured, took the time to make conversation and remembered little details from our breakfast order for our next visit. He always greeted us with a warm smile and truly made our day.

  Location was exceptional and the building itself had a beautiful boutique feel. Service was first class and we were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade on our room even though the hotel was busy. We were welcomed with drinks and snacks while we checked in which was gratefully received after a long journey. Our room was stylish clean and comfortable. Staff brought our luggage up to our room. It really has the five star feeling. Such a wonderful location for just wondering out into Hanoi old quarter.
  
  What could be improved: I've had better breakfasts to be honest for a five star hotel. Although the service was 1st class the pancakes were hard and cold and pastries dry.
  Air conditioning in our room made a rattling noise all night to the point we had to turn it off.

  Wonderfull new hotel in the old quarter. Staff was really friendly, upon arrival they upgraded our room due to avaliability. Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was really good with plenty of options. All in all, perfect experiance!

  Nice clean and very comfortable stay right in the old quarters, the town centre. Would recommend to those who want to stay in the old quarters. Good sound proofing and beds were very comfortable so had good sleep as well. Very polite and helpful staff.
  
  What could be improved: Some rooms without windows that we didn't realise at the time of booking. However hotel was very nice to upgrade us so it wasn't an issue.
