Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, and La Passion Classic Hotel on Phan Dinh Phung street hits that sweet spot you’re always hoping for but rarely find. You know what I mean – it’s got that boutique feel without the boutique attitude, and honestly, the 9.1 rating isn’t just inflated review nonsense. The place actually earns it.

First thing that struck me was the location – and I don’t mean “convenient location” in that generic travel brochure way. I mean you’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, which means you can grab your morning coffee and watch the tai chi crowd without dealing with the chaos of the main tourist drags. Phan Dinh Phung is one of those streets that feels residential enough to give you breathing room but still puts you right in the heart of everything. The staff at check-in seemed genuinely surprised when I mentioned I’d walked from the airport area – apparently most guests are smart enough to take a taxi, but hey, I like to explore. They had my room ready even though I arrived early, which was a nice touch.

What really got me was the attention to detail throughout the place. The rooms have this sort of… well, it’s hard to describe, but they managed to blend Vietnamese touches with modern comfort without making it feel like a theme park. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case), and the air conditioning works properly – crucial during those humid Hanoi summers. I stayed on the third floor and honestly barely heard any street noise, which is pretty remarkable considering you’re in the middle of one of the busiest cities in Southeast Asia. The bathroom was spotless, good water pressure, and they restocked everything daily without me having to ask.

Here’s the thing though – it’s the little stuff that makes La Passion Classic stand out. The lobby always smelled like jasmine (not overpowering, just… pleasant), and there’s this small seating area where you can actually work on your laptop without feeling like you’re camping out. The breakfast spread was better than I expected for a 4-star place, with both Western options and proper Vietnamese dishes – their pho bo was legit, not the watered-down tourist version you get at a lot of hotel restaurants. And the front desk staff? They actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about finding good banh mi that wasn’t on every food blog, they pointed me toward a tiny place on a side street that became my daily stop.

The only minor gripe – and this is really reaching – is that the elevators are a bit slow, but that gave me an excuse to use the stairs and work off all that incredible street food. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. It’s one of those places that manages to feel like a real hotel experience rather than just somewhere to crash between sightseeing sessions. For the price point and the location, you’re not going to find much better in Hanoi’s center.

  Everything was good. Perfact for 1 or 2 person. Location was also good. Many restaurants and supermarket near by.

  The breakfast was varied and tasty.
  The room size is moderate.The bed was super large and comfy. The location is close to Old Quarter and the lake, but away from the noise and the crowd.

  What could be improved: The elevator is small and slow, but you can use the staircase.

  The hotel is great value for money. The rooms need some tlc but for the price we paid we were more than satisfied. The staff were extremely helpful and went above and beyond with any request we made. The bed was really comfy and we slept well.
  
  What could be improved: As mentioned, the building needs some attention. It is noisy at night on the lower floors so be prepared. We used earplugs and It wasn't a problem for us.

  We only stayed here for 1 night before getting our flight the next day but the room was spotlessly clean with plenty of towels and a separate shower which was great to not have a wet room. The buffet breakfast in the morning was amazing with a huge selection of western and Vietnamese food. The staff were also nice and let us check in at 2am.
