La Siesta Classic Ma May Overview
You know what really struck me about La Siesta Classic Ma May? It’s tucked right into the heart of the Old Quarter on this narrow street that actually feels like stepping back in time – I mean, you’ve got these crumbling French colonial buildings on one side and traditional Vietnamese shophouses on the other. The thing is, Ma May Street isn’t one of those tourist traps like Ta Hien or Beer Corner, so you’re getting the real Hanoi vibe without dodging selfie sticks every five seconds.
Walking into the hotel, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside (the entrance is pretty modest), but the lobby actually surprised me with this sort of refined colonial aesthetic – dark wood, subtle lighting, none of that flashy marble you see everywhere else. The staff here really knows their stuff too, and I don’t just mean the usual “welcome to Vietnam” spiel. When I asked about getting to some of the less obvious temples in the area, the front desk guy drew me this little hand-sketched map showing shortcuts through the alleyways that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms are what you’d call compact but thoughtfully designed – I mean, this is the Old Quarter, so you’re not getting sprawling suites, but everything feels intentional. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (sometimes these boutique places skimp on mattresses), and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that actually had decent water pressure, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of town.
What really sets this place apart though is the location specifics that you only appreciate after you’ve stayed here a few days. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Hang Buom Street where all the local fabric shops are – not the touristy ones, but where actual Hanoians go for tailoring. There’s this tiny pho place right around the corner on Hang Bac that doesn’t even have a sign, just plastic stools on the sidewalk, and it serves some of the best broth I had during my entire trip. The hotel sits just far enough from Hoan Kiem Lake that you avoid the evening crowds but close enough that you can walk there in about eight minutes when you want that postcard view. And here’s something I didn’t expect – the street gets surprisingly quiet after about 10 PM, so you’re not dealing with motorbike noise all night like you would on some of the main drags. The only minor thing is that check-in can get a bit backed up during peak season (I was there in October), but the staff handled it well and offered complimentary tea while we waited. That 9.5 rating honestly makes sense – it’s one of those places that just gets the details right without trying too hard to impress you.

Luxury hotel with very helpful staff and extensive breakfast. The room was spacious, very comfortable and quiet. Lively street, very nice to walk in the neighborhood. The spa was beautiful and very peaceful.
What could be improved: The laundry is expensive, as well as the spa that does not offer any discount for hotel guests. The room is expensive, but nothing negative about it. We were on the 9th floor, far from any noise of the city but you have a few stairs to walk as the elevator stops at floor 8.Zt2 from France – 17 May 2025 (9/10)

Stylish boutique hotel right in the middle of the old quarter. It was an oasis of calm in the craziness of Hanoi!

A smart, very comfortable hotel right in the heart of the old quarter of Hanoi with an excellent friendly, helpful, kind team of young staff. Duplex rooms were fantastic and luxurious on 2 floors with 2 bathrooms. A wonderful treat as a free upgrade on 2 separate visits on our trip. Thankyou!! Very convenient and felt safe especially with no traffic in the area after dark at the weekends l! Good restaurants in the street too.
What could be improved: Rooms do not have any views apart from the back of other buildings as right in the heart of the old cit, not a problem when you are out exploring all day long! Roof top bar looked inviting but not when loud music was frequently blaring out.Richard from United States – 25 April 2025 (9/10)
Overall an exceptionally nice and comfortable place to stay at in old city Hanoi. The front desk and restaurant staff were excellent. The onsite restaurant served up great food. The room was
Very comfortable.
What could be improved: The staff at the roof top sky bar was the only negative. Not a big deal but they could be more attentive to their customers. Slow service and forgotten orders.David from Australia – 24 April 2025 (10/10)
