Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of places in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, and Le Premier Hotel honestly caught me off guard – in the best way possible. You know how most hotels on these narrow streets feel cramped and dark? Well, this one actually figured out how to make a 4-star property work on tiny Hang Hanh street, and I mean *really* work. The moment you walk through that lobby (which is surprisingly spacious for this neighborhood), you can tell someone put real thought into the design. It’s modern without being sterile, Vietnamese without being kitschy – that’s harder to pull off than you’d think.

What really sets this place apart though is that rooftop bar situation. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical because every hotel in Hanoi claims to have some amazing rooftop view, but most of them overlook air conditioning units and laundry lines. Le Premier’s actually delivers – you’re looking out over the maze of Old Quarter rooftops toward Hoan Kiem Lake, and on clear evenings you can see all the way to the Red River. The bar itself isn’t huge, maybe twenty people max, which means it never feels like a tourist zoo. I ended up there three nights running, nursing Vietnamese craft beers and watching the controlled chaos of motorbikes navigating the streets below. Fair warning though – it gets busy around sunset, so if you want a good spot, show up by 5:30.

The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a well-run 4-star in this price range, but here’s what I appreciated: they actually soundproofed the windows properly. Trust me, that matters when you’re sleeping above streets where vendors start hawking pho at 5 AM. The air conditioning works (not always a given in older buildings here), the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and – this is key – the water pressure in the shower is legit strong. Small things, but they add up when you’re dealing with Hanoi’s humidity and spending long days walking around dusty temples and markets. Staff-wise, the front desk crew knows their stuff about getting around the city. They’ll flag down proper taxis (not the tourist-trap ones), give you realistic walking times to places, and actually understand when you ask about avoiding the worst of the motorbike traffic. With a 9.9 rating, you’d expect everything to be perfect, and while I wouldn’t go quite that high myself – the elevator’s a bit slow and breakfast could use more local options – it’s definitely one of the better choices if you want to be right in the thick of Old Quarter action without sacrificing comfort.

  This hotel is absolutely amazing, truly a five star stay. The rooms were impressive, with soft duvets and mattresses that were just right. The room was cool and comfortable, with amazing air conditioning. The location is perfectly situated in the heart of the old quarter. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, with a good variety of Vietnamese and Western dishes. Afternoon tea daily from 2-4pm with pastries was an unexpected bonus. Above all, the service was truly top notch. The manager walked my family's suitcases to our Halong Bay cruise meeting point 2 blocks away in 38 C heat dressed in a suit. I cannot wait to come back!

  Exceptional staff, some of the best customer service we experienced in all of Vietnam. Location is great with easy access to food, shopping, lake and sightseeing. Breakfast has a lovely mix of things.
