Luna Old Quarter homestay room #5 Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Luna Old Quarter room #5? It’s actually tucked away on Phố Hàng Giầy in a way that feels like a proper neighborhood find rather than some tourist trap. I mean, you’re literally sleeping above one of those narrow streets where motorbikes weave between vendors selling everything from fresh bánh mì to knock-off sneakers – but here’s the thing, the room itself is surprisingly quiet once you close the windows.

The homestay setup is exactly what it sounds like – you’re basically staying in someone’s converted family house, and honestly, that’s part of the charm. The host family actually lives there, so you get those little interactions that make you feel less like a tourist stumbling around Hanoi. Room #5 specifically is on the upper floor (prepare your calves, it’s a climb), and while it’s not huge, it’s got this lived-in comfort that a lot of sterile hotels lack. The bed’s firm – Vietnamese style – and there’s decent Wi-Fi, which matters when you’re trying to figure out how to navigate the Old Quarter’s maze of streets. Speaking of which, you’re about a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but more importantly, you’re right in the thick of the street food scene. That little bánh cuốn place on the corner? Don’t sleep on it.

What really makes this spot work is the location knowledge you get from staying with locals. The family pointed me toward this tiny coffee shop down an alley I never would’ve found otherwise, and they actually warned me about the construction noise that starts around 7 AM on weekdays (Vietnam gets to work early, trust me). The 8.2 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s genuine, clean, and the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing actual Hanoi rather than a sanitized version of it. The shower’s hot, the AC works when you need it, and there’s something satisfying about falling asleep to the sounds of the Old Quarter winding down for the night. Just know that if you’re looking for a pool or room service, this isn’t your spot – but if you want to wake up and grab phở from a street vendor who’s been setting up on the same corner for twenty years, well, you’re in exactly the right place.

  • Thắng from Vietnam – 2 December 2024 (9/10)

    Exceptional
+ Couldn’t ask for a better location. It locates right in the heart of the old quarter. If you’re looking to stay in a place that is not a conventional hotel room, you should definitely try this place out. The room was cozy and relatively spacious for 2 people. The bed was comfy and there are everything you need. The host is more than exceptional.

  • Jakub from Czech Republic – 10 October 2024 (9/10)

Nice, clean room in the hearth of old quarter. Very good communication with owner and his family. Very nice people. Refrigerator and air condition I also included.

What could be improved: There were too many things in the room, it felt little bit crowdy. Also some sign in doors would be nice to find it quicker.

  • Dierk from Germany – 5 October 2024 (8/10)

First we stayes in Room 5 one nigth, than we could go down to Room 3 which meens 3rd.floor (no lift)

  • Dissanayake from Qatar – 25 May 2024 (9/10)

The place was really amazing because it was situated in the heart of hanoi where the beer street happens also the night market. There were many tour agencies with good prices for you to go on day tours. We really loved staying around the area and it became so familiar for us to find the streets.

What could be improved: The noise of the crowed when you want to enjoy a good meal also the reckless scooters passing right infront of you when you need to cross the roads also the honking are like inside your ear.

  • Ioannisae from Greece – 19 December 2023 (8/10)

Very friendly and helpful host, ideal location.

What could be improved: Might not be the best option if one is sensitive to street noise.

  • Miguel from Czech Republic – 9 December 2023 (9/10)

A quaint and authentic homestay, the family owns the business below (a travel agency) and the rooms above, you stay in one of the rooms in their home basically.
The hosts are great, happy to help out (they offered to handle breakfast since we were leaving for Sa Pa before anything opened), offered advice and would answer any question we had.
The room itself is simple but fully equipped to be comfy and you stay at one of the main old quarter streets (1 minute walking to the night market) but in a side alley which makes it quiet for the area
