Madelise Palace Hotel & Travel Overview
You know what surprised me most about Madelise Palace? It’s tucked right into the heart of Hang Buom Street – which honestly sounds chaotic when you first hear about it – but they’ve managed to create this little pocket of calm that still keeps you connected to everything happening in the Old Quarter. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the weekend night market mayhem, but when you step into the lobby, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about what tired travelers need.
The thing is, most hotels in this part of Hoan Kiem either go full tourist-trap flashy or they’re so “authentic” that you’re basically roughing it. Madelise sits somewhere in the middle that actually works. The rooms are properly comfortable – and I say this as someone who’s stayed in way too many Vietnamese hotels where “4-star” is more wishful thinking than reality. Here, the AC actually keeps up with Hanoi’s humidity, the shower pressure is decent (crucial after walking around the lake district all day), and honestly, the beds are better than what you’d find at twice the price in the more touristy streets closer to Hoan Kiem Lake. The staff seems to get that mix of being helpful without hovering, which – let’s be real – can be hit or miss in this area.
What really sold me on the place, though, is how it sits in the neighborhood. Hang Buom has this perfect balance where you’ve got actual locals living their lives alongside the tourist stuff. There’s a pho place about three doors down that opens at 6 AM and serves some of the best breakfast bowls I’ve had in the city, and the family running it doesn’t even blink at foreigners anymore because of hotels like this one. You can walk to all the temple-hopping and souvenir shopping you want, but you’re also seeing kids riding bikes to school and grandmothers setting up their street-side tea setups. The hotel benefits from being part of that rhythm instead of fighting against it. Sure, it gets lively in the evenings – this is the Old Quarter, after all – but by Vietnamese standards, Hang Buom is actually pretty reasonable noise-wise. I slept fine with the windows cracked open, which says something. The 9.3 rating isn’t just people being generous; they’ve figured out how to deliver what travelers actually want without losing the energy that makes this part of Hanoi worth staying in. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because leaving feels like more hassle than it’s worth.
