You know what caught me off guard about Minh Vy House? Walking into what looks like just another narrow Old Quarter building and finding this surprisingly spacious apartment that actually feels like a home. I mean, when you’re booking places on Hàng Vôi street, you’re usually bracing yourself for something cramped – but this place has room to breathe, which is honestly rare in this part of Hanoi.

The location is pretty perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without the total chaos. Hàng Vôi runs parallel to the lake, so you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoàn Kiếm Lake’s northern edge, but far enough from Hàng Ngang street that you won’t have motorbikes honking under your window all night. The internet speed they advertise? It’s legit – I was pulling down files faster than I do at home, which was a pleasant surprise. And that kitchen… well, it’s not huge, but it’s got everything you need if you want to grab some fresh herbs from the market on Hàng Bè (just around the corner) and cook something that isn’t phở for once.

What really sold me was the washer – sounds mundane, I know, but after a week of hand-washing clothes in hostel sinks, being able to do actual laundry felt like luxury. The whole setup feels thoughtfully put together rather than just thrown together for tourists. The host clearly gets what travelers actually need versus what booking sites think we want. There’s decent water pressure (not always a given in the Old Quarter), the AC works without sounding like a helicopter, and you’ve got proper blackout curtains – crucial when the street vendors start their morning routine around 5:30 AM.

The building itself has that classic Old Quarter vibe with narrow stairs that make you wonder how they got furniture up there, but once you’re settled in, you’re perfectly positioned to explore. Honestly, staying here feels like having a local friend’s apartment for a few days rather than just passing through another generic accommodation. At an 8.8 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I can see why.

  Where to start. From the moment we stepped off the plane late at night our host was already taking care of us. He had sent us the most detailed instructions with pictures on how to take inexpensive transportation to arrive at the apartment. The location of the apartment itself is perfect. Toward the end of a narrow alley way which removes you from the noise of the busy city street that runs by it. The apartment itself is very cozy and comfortable. From the paintings on the walls which his daughter had done, to the comfortable sofa and bed and the clean bathroom with plenty of hot water for showers, everything was great. It seemed that there was absolutely nothing that the host didn’t think of to make us feel right at home. Though we never got to meet our host, if we had a concern or question it seemed his response was sent instantaneously! Many thanks to him for making our stay in Hanoi so nice.

  The washing machine was so handy, the space was perfect and had lots of little thoughtful extras, bed was comfy and location was in such a nice area. We met Phuong the owner and she was so lovely. Had some trouble with the self- check in during the night and Phuong answered my call during the night to help! Perfect accommodation to see Hanoi from- would have stayed longer.
  
  What could be improved: A good few ants around the place but it’s an old building and they didn’t bother us.
