Shining Central Hotel & Spa Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Shining Central Hotel & Spa? It’s tucked away on Lo Su Street, which honestly I’d never heard of before – but it turns out to be this perfect little pocket right in the heart of Hoan Kiem. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the lake, but somehow you’ve escaped all that tourist chaos around Hang Bac Street. The building itself has this understated elegance thing going on – not trying too hard to be boutique-y, just clean lines and this marble lobby that actually feels cool when you step in from Hanoi’s sticky heat.
What really sold me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their stuff about the neighborhood. The guy at reception (I think his name was Duc?) didn’t just point me toward Hoan Kiem Lake like every other hotel – he actually walked me through the back streets shortcut that locals use to avoid the motorbike madness on Hang Gai. The rooms are solid four-star territory, nothing revolutionary but everything works properly (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in Hanoi). The spa part isn’t just a marketing add-on either – they’ve got this surprisingly good massage setup on the upper floors where you can actually hear the city humming below but it’s muffled enough to relax. I went for a treatment around 6 PM and could smell the street food starting to fire up from the vendors down on Hang Buom Street.
Here’s the thing that bumped this place up for me – the location gives you options. You can walk to the Old Quarter morning markets before the crowds hit, or you can head the other direction toward the French Quarter when you need a break from the intensity. There’s a little bia hoi spot literally around the corner on Hang Bong that locals actually use (not just backpackers), and somehow the hotel manages to stay quiet despite being in the middle of everything. I stayed here during Tet season and expected total chaos, but the double-glazed windows actually work. Sure, you’ll still hear the occasional motorbike symphony at 5 AM, but that’s just Hanoi being Hanoi. The 9.4 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in the district, but everything from the check-in process to the breakfast spread (which includes proper Vietnamese coffee, not just instant stuff) feels like someone’s actually paying attention to details.

The breakfast was amazing and the beds really comfy. The staff also was awesome.
What could be improved: The AC points at the beds which is a bit annoying.Simon from New Zealand – 3 June 2025 (8/10)
Great staff. Really friendly. Great location too.
Hamilton from Australia – 2 June 2025 (9/10)
I loved the location, it was in a quieter street with lots of trees and when you turn the corner, you were right in the busy bustley parts of the old quarter. The spa downstairs was a lovely retreat for very good massages and the breakfast was fabulous with lots of options, omelettes on request and fresh fruit. The staff were warm and very helpful. There was a very good inexpensive laundry service.
The room was comforable.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel in the heart of Hanoi's Old Quarter! The location couldn't have been better – we were just a short walk from the Thang Long Water Puppet Theater and Hoan Kiem Lake, making it incredibly easy to explore these key attractions.
Our family room was fantastic – very spacious and comfortable, easily accommodating our entire family. We also really appreciated the delicious breakfast each morning, which offered a great start to our day of sightseeing.
What truly made our stay exceptional was the incredibly helpful staff. They were always ready with a smile and eager to assist with any questions or requests we had. A special thank you to Anna, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and was so helpful throughout our stay. We highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again!Casey from South Korea – 22 May 2025 (9/10)
